Great Game, Terrible Unlock System

Played 30+ hours of this great game and I gotta say that the unlock system is one of the worst to ever appear in a video game. I am yet to unlock all the characters which sucks and is even worse for those people who can't committ as much time as me and have to pray to RNGesus for characters they want. And let's not even talk about how terrible it is that they force you to spend a dozen + hours in a boring horde mode (Infinity) to get the Legendary characters.

    @iEmulatedi , handing out unlockables through RNG is not "working for it". Having to master a plant or zombie to unlock it next variant would be "working for it". But you missed one of my main points. In a balanced online competitive game you shouldn't have to work for it to use it. You should have to "work for it" to be good at it/with it. A specific example of "working in for it" is spending 12 hours in the training room with Ryu to learn combos.and specific timing or playing hundreds of online matches in Pokemon while learning to tweak your teams moves or mons' to ensure a better win rate.

    Unlocking characters and abilities through RNG = not working for it

    Look at DOTA > Everything is unlocked
    Look at League of Legends > You have to either grind for unlocking characters by choice or buy them with monies OR buy a mystery box which is RNG
    Look at Battlefront > Grind EXP for skills/cosmetics
    Look at Counterstrike > Weapon Skins (Either buy them on market, or open a crate with RNG)
    Look at WOW > Kill a boss, get random loot / Win an arena match, get random loot
    Look at PVZGW > Grind coins, open sticker packs, get parts of or entire characters/cosmetics
    Look at EvE Online > Kill rats in a belt, get random loot

    RNG is not a new concept, nor a bad thing in a game that is about collecting and having fun.

    @iEmulatedi, you are aware RNG stands for random number generator right? The fact that you think us having equal RNG % = balanced is laughable. You have an equal RNG chance of being able to pick a Rose as everyone else so I guess ultimately it's balanced because the RNGesus says so.

    Any one person unlocking top tier characters and abilities 20 hours before someone else due to RNG is not as balanced as everyone having access to all characters. Don't even know how you could debate otherwise.

    Its not random when there is no 'random' button when you choose your class buddy.

    People are CHOOSING to play rose.

    I didn't expect this to turn into a rose hate thread, but here you go!
    I'm guessing the only reason you made this post is because you don't have a fire or ice rose eh?

    Funny story, I have them both unlocked. But haven't used either because I think it would ruin others' fun.

    However I can now see through the RNG complaints and straight into your jealous, salty heart.

    DOTA is a F2P game w/ no RNG for core competitive play
    LoL a "F2P" game that allows you to spend money or in game currency on what you wish, no RNG
    Battlefront has no RNG, you can spend the currency you earn on what you wish
    Counter Strike a F2P that makes money off of gambling for weapons through RNG
    WoW not as an RNG as you may think, all items have a specified % drop rate, also, dunno how you compare an RPG in which competitive play is an after though to a competitive shooter

    PVZ, unlike the other (mostly) online competitive games you mentioned, you pay $80 for it and then pray to the RNGesus for core multiplayer components. I'd have a lot less beef with it if it did follow the Star Wars progression system of reaching the level cap within 24 hours and spending your in game currency on what you want to use.

    The slots gives coins out constantly in this game...I'm able to get the 75k a couple of times each day...if not several. >.>

    I hate to tell you this but RNG is equal for everyone just because someone gets lucky doesn't mean the RNG favored them in some way or another, everyone gets a RANDOM chance at getting something.

    No need to make this personal dude. I have an astounding K/D ratio and am 5 character packs away from having all the characters (minus legendarys). But yes, you are correct, I am yet to get the Fire Rose.

    It's a great game, I'm just calling out it's crappy unlock system. I will not be a PVZGW2 apologist. I just don't think it's fair that I already Mastered 3 Roses (and 2 imps) while some other players are almost level 200 and are yet to obtain a second Rose, second Imp or whatever is top tier or what they are effective at playing with.

    This isn't about salt or skill level. It's an objective look at an RNG unlock system for a competitive game people already paid $80 for

    The unlock system's fine. I'll ignore the fact that you paid twenty extra dollars for the game to just say that. You play the game, you earn more coins by being better at the game, you unlock characters that way. It would be one thing if one character could destroy all other characters but with the exception of Rose and all of her variants, just having a certain variant doesn't make you any better at the game. I've seen people with legendaries get killed by people using the base characters.

    Even with the legendaries you have to be skilled in order to get the most out of it. You only get the most out of it when you mange to get several kills in a row without dying, which requires skill.

    EDIT: Mastered 3 Roses. And then you have the nerve to talk about being effective whilst using the most overpowered character in the game. Scumbag.
