How do we play 2 player on the Nintendo switch PVZ?

We just bought the PvZ Battle for the Neighborhood for the Nintendo switch. It said it supports 2 player. How can both my boys play on the same console/TV? I understand it’s not split screen but is still multiplayer. Do they need 2 consoles ?

@JGF42014 They both need their own consoles and their own copies of the game. Be aware they can would only be able to play together in the matchmade PvP game modes or in the Battle Ops. You cannot play the campaign Explore modes in multiplayer on the Switch version.
