Mobicip interference

[EDIT: as stated later in the comments, Mobicip has been ruled out as the culprit. I still cannot connect to EA servers from the title screen, however, and am still in need of a solution to the problem. See updates below.]

[EDIT#2: forget what I said about Mobicip in the first edit. See final comment. We have come full circle here, folks.]

I'm having issues connecting to EA servers in order to access the game. I am aware that similar sounding issues have been reported within the last month, but I am 99.999% certain that in my case it is the parental control program, Mobicip, that is causing the issue, since I was perfectly capable of running the game before now and because this Isn't the first time Mobicip has messed this kind of thing up for me.

Apparently, in order to place the game on the whitelist for Mobicip, I need the specific URL for any online service that the game interacts with while it's running.

I have no idea where to find this information for myself, so I came here.

OK so apparently even when the functionality of Mobicip is COMPLETELY DISABLED (still installed, just turned off completely) just having Mobicip ON the computer is what completely stops BFN from running properly.

The only way to make it work again is to uninstall Mobicip.

    Whitelisting didn't work.

Putting it on monitor only (which shouldn't block anything) did nothing.

Disabling Mobicip from doing anything by turning it off...… diddly squat.

The two programs cannot even EXIST on the same machine. It just doesn't work.

...but as soon as Mobicip is uninstalled...….. BFN works perfectly.

(which is concerning since this game is marketed to children and there is a good chance those children would have Mobicip as their parental control program)

    WTF Mobicip….

Hey, I'm not too familiar with mobicip, and unfortunately we don't have that info to hand but hopefully we can help. To start with, you can try disabling all restrictions to ensure that this service is the issue.

If it is, then hopefully it's just the basic EA service that's being restricted, you can try whitelisting easo.ea.com and/or the 159.153.*.* IP range.

Past that it might get tricky, I tried checking the outgoing connections on my end and there wasn't one labelled explicitly as BfN, and many of the Origin connections were going to Azure servers. Perhaps there's a way to whitelist Azure servers within Mobicip?

  • Since my last post, Mobicip has been set to monitor only instead of a hard block, and there has been no change to the issue.

Mobicip is still running in the background, and it tends to make any internet connection much slower, so maybe turning it off completely will stop the server connection timeout just by speeding up the process.

I am now starting to think that it actually is a separate issue, however.

Could still try the whitelist anyway, but if it doesn't work I'm thinking it might just be a patch issue or something. That's assuming there was even a patch that day.

I can't imagine it being a firewall issue if I was already capable of playing before.

Thank you for your time, and response.

    Have a good one

UPDATE: Mobicip is no longer active, and I am still unable to get past the title screen without the "connection to EA servers" "timing out", so Mobicip being the issue is 100% ruled out.

I was perfectly capable of playing only a couple of days ago, and as far as I am aware my firewall has not changed since then.

back to square one, I guess.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I have tried both clearing my Origin cache and reinstalling Origin completely. No change.
