Nightcap ability discussion

Nightcap

Casting shadows

Bfn description:

Hide allies and restrict enemy movement in the shadow dome.

Nightcap creates a shadow dome. The dome hides ally plants, sucks in zombies, slows down zombies, and inverts their controls. Lasts 5 seconds with a 20 second cooldown.

Has 2 upgrades.

Incubate-Allies revive faster while within Casting Shadows.

Reduces the time to revive an ally by half when inside Casting Shadows.

Corrode-

Drain ammo, increase weapon heat, and slow ability refresh time of enemy hit by Casting Shadows.

Enemies caught in Casting Shadows suffer from the following penalties: (1.) 5-7 rounds are taken out from their weapon; (2.) For the 80s Action Hero, Bow Blaster's charge time is increased by 50%; (3.) For Super Brainz, Heroic Fists' attack speed is decreased by 50%; (4.) For All-Star and Z-Mech's primary weapon, overheat rate is increased by 0.1 percentage points; (5.) Refresh times of all abilities decreased by 0 seconds.

Fung fu

Bfn description: Repeatedly strike nearby enemies for massive damage.

Night Cap starts spinning and begins striking nearby enemies constantly, dealing 6 damage (8 critical) at a fast rate of fire. It ends with a slam in the center which deals 24 damage. Her movement speed is greatly reduced for the duration, however. She gains a 20% damage reduction at the windup but gets 60% during the actual attack. Lasts 3 seconds with a 25 second cooldown.

Has 2 upgrades.

Fleet flooted: Move faster and gain ability to jump while Fung Fu is active.

Increases movement speed by 42.8571% and gain ability to jump while using Fung Fu.

Uppercut: Enemies get knocked up into the air during Fung Fu.

Fung Fu knocks enemies 0.65m (2.13 ft) upward.

Was initially gonna be called Sportal Kombat.

Shadow sneak

Bfn description: Disappear and move swiftly.

Night Cap cloaks herself from zombies for 3 seconds and moves faster. During the three seconds occasional smoke clouds will appear where Night Cap is. Two uses which can be stacked.

Has 2 upgrades

Shadow sling:

Teleport for a short distance when activating Shadow Sneak.

Teleport 7m (22.97 ft) when entering Shadow Sneak.

Shadow Tribute: Longer Shadow Sneak duration for a short time by earning a Vanquish.

Gain a charge of Shadow Sneak upon vanquishing an enemy

Casting shadows lasts longer than gravity grenade, benefits allies by hiding them, hinders enemies, can even screw with ammo under upgrades, and has a significantly bigger aoe. &!_$ off popcap.

Ah Fung Fu. It was a lawless time where every other characters damage was terrible and this was too powerful for its own good. Now it's just kinda meh.

Shadow sneak isn't great. Since she leaves behind the smoke trail it's not hard to usually find and pick her off, heck since it's so short I would rather just remove it but keep the sounds of her footsteps. Why does she also block the point while invisible as that's kinda dumb, especially with the fountain in peachy district. She's not a good stealth character with this power.

  • Night cap isn't a bad character idea at all, and I love her vocalizations. My biggest beef with this character are her main weapon's sudden drop off to zero which makes normal attacks frustrating and how Fung Fu has been adjusted so many times and still feels 'off'. I still feel she should be more of a single target focused assassin as she's a kind of stealth Ninja so that would make more sense in context. She suffers a lot from what all stealth characters do in these games; from the spy in TF2 to Skye in Paladins, and anywhere else I've seen them; people really hate getting taken out by characters that can go invisible, even if the actual character isn't that difficult to deal with.

Casting Shadows is an ability I overall like, but they buffed it too far and now it's more annoying than gravity grenade is in GW2 as it combines the suction effect with a large area that obscures a portion of the battlefield from the zombie players. Yes, you can shoot into it, but placed well it also blocks seeing stuff behind it. I'd be fine with it just losing that suction effect and I can't see it needing any other changes.

Fung Fu has been a mess. It was too powerful at first, but has been altered several times and due to how it works, we still get suicide nightcaps, but the better ones make good use of this thing as a finisher and then get out of there. I'd like them to make it work, make it useful, and not overdo it.

I like shadow sneak a lot and that telltale trail isn't that easy to see in most battles as all 3 shooters have a lot of visual 'noise'. Not a fan of invisible, or worse, invulnerable characters affecting capture points, like you mention here though. She's not that hard to spot when the battles are smaller or in  quiet moment, but those are pretty rare.

@Iron_Guard8 She really suffered from the founder nerfs and never really recovered.

Stealth characters have never really faired well in multiplayer shooter. They are either given broken stealth or a cheap tactic that only really ticks people off while still being generally weaker than other characters. Spy generally fairs better than the others because his abilities/weapons allow him to multitask and play mindgames with the enemy team rather than just being the backstab guy. He also has to be visible and undisguised to cap/defend which makes him unable to cheese the rather small points in tf2.

Casting shadows is just too good when you use it offensively. If it worked the way it was intended it would be fine but instead we have gravity grenade but better.

I've found that Fung Fu is mainly a death sentence nowadays with how many Superbrainz are running around.
  • Well, you can use the abilities of Nightcap together to stay invisible for long amounts of time if you wanted.

    My thoughts on the abilities:

Casting Shadows: Throws a dome that turns you and any ally invisible while inside it, and basically traps any enemies unless they have a burst of mobility that allow them to escape it. That seems very powerful. Are your enemies annoying you? Annoy them back with your Casting Shadows and make it difficult for them to escape and easier to be vanquished from you and your team, surely that will be annoying. Did you know that you can jump like crazy in your Casting Shadows while you are shooting at your enemies? Surely that is annoying as well. Why is this ability so good?

Fung Fu: It's crazy time everyone! Time to go all out and attack like, well, a ninja! Dealing damage to all enemies that are too close to the Nightcap, you can use this against groups of enemies. Enemies, do not bundle all of the time. You might just get Fung Fued. There is a start up time for this ability, so using it without your enemies noticing will be helpful to avoid getting vanquished. You get damage reduction as well while using this ability, so use this to block a direct ZPG and not get vanquished (I wish anyway), but it will enable you to survive much more easily unless on low health.

Shadow Sneak: Guess what? You can turn invisible, but not completely. Your enemies will be able to notice what is going on by smoke clouds that you are leaving. Nightcap, you should throw the Smoke Bomb before you turn invisible, not while you are invisible. Although having a noise cue would probably be useful. Throw your Casting Shadows while invisible to be double invisible, although that is not a thing. Use Shadow Sneak to enter fights undetected, confuse your enemies or to make an easy escape for yourself. Still very useful then. Contesting is fun too, or is it, you tell me?

    Anyway, that is Nightcap's abilities.
