I have lots of points to make.
I have spent a couple hundred bucks on this game in the last 10-11 months. Most of that spending came at the very beginning, back when this game actually was expensive.
There wasn't 20 ads a day then. There wasn't 3 ads a day. There were none. And we only received 3 cards per pack. And there was no such thing as 5,000 gem multipacks.
But I still spent the money and invested my time, because it was fun and easily worth the money - considering the amount of entertainment it gave me day after day.
Everyone starting the game now has it really good. You can be very competitive for a game that is completely free! Yet people still whine about the most trivial things. That sort of entitlement boggles my mind. Grow up and enjoy your free game. Or leave.
Unless the rate has been modified in the latest update, people will average a legendary card every 11 packs (based on statistical surveys done on other forums[my own experience corroborates this]). So, sometimes you will get none. Sometimes you will get three in a 1,000 gem multi-pack! My last 5k pack gave me only 3 or 4, but the two before that each gave me more than 10. Ultimately I guess it's nice to have a guarantee, but it has never affected me.
I think every update so far has made the game better than it was before, including the latest(especially including this latest build actually). Losing 5k multi-packs, but gaining the ability to purchase your remaining missing cards is well worth the trade-off for me.
Bravo Popcap! (Fix Sportacus please 😇)
edit; I think everything else was answered by others.
Let me ask. What is the current state you your deck? What cards are you missing? I'd like to hear from dainni if you'd like to share axe well. Just curious.

I'm not missing any cards now. This latest update enabled me to get the last few holdouts I was looking for.
(That's not counting this week's event card. I still need one Sportacus.)
- 8 years agoTbh most of mine are event cards i didn't have the time to earn or legendaries i don't really need or didn't have the sparks to create. That being said, there are certain playstyle i favor, and i have all the cards i need for those. I like me most of my decks more than theirs.
Which is why we favor this new iteration. It allows us to spend our money on specifics.
I understand this puts newer players at more of a disadvantage when it comes to using gems. Filling out your decks will likely cost you more than us... but that being said, would you expect a business to cater to those who don't want to spend money, or those that have proven they will spend money?
And, with patience you can still fill out everything with gems... one full usable deck at a time.- 8 years ago@GrinningRuiner nice, 'grats!

It's easy to preach patience when you're in the shoes you are in. This is the first card game I have played so what other games do or don't do is irrelevant to me. I struggle from a perspective of when you give your audience something and then all of the sudden take it away with no warning not expecting blowback. Again, I'm in a pretty good spot but they are putting new players especially f2p at a big disadvantage. We all know that this game is much more competitive and I think that this change will be discouraging for many and I again don't like it. Time will tell. Full disclosure I too have spent about $20 because I whole heartedly feel if you like a f2p game and get enjoyment out of it you should suopport it financially if you're able to.

I'm basically just saying that new players have it good. Really good compared to how it used to be.
Yes, some of us have a head start, but that will always be an issue for people late to the party.
It's taken me 10+ months and $200+ to get all the cards.
If I just started playing now, I'm sure I could do it for free and in less than 6 months.
So, while I understand that it is annoying to have a feature taken away, from my perspective it is just a trivial issue.
New players have it way easier than I did starting out And I still had a ton of fun at the beginning.
