I think people are forgetting the healers. The respawn time I believe are longer than the previous games to allow healers to reach fallen teammates.
It sucks to be a healer when running to a fallen teammate and the ability to revive them disappears because they chose to respawn.
Revives would be unnecessary if players respawn faster and can get to the battle quicker than they would waiting for a revive.
Some maps would also be too onesided with faster respawns when a respawn point is close to an objective.
I believe respawn times are there to also penalize players who have no regards for dying.
It's noticeable in team vanquish when a player keeps running solo and dying.
Faster respawn time will allow a player who is "throwing" make his team lose faster.

Then if you keep dead waiting for a revive or back immediately is optional.

@precocial We need healers to revive as fast as they did in GW2. Making the taunt window longer to keep people from respawning (as opposed to making healers revive quickly as needed) only encourages people to taunt one another .... and when you die, you’re more likely to try to respawn quicker so you don’t have to watch someone taunt for an extended amount of time (which leads to less revives).
If we made the taunt window only show one taunt by default and give the fallen gamer the option to respawn or watch their corpse/the rest of the taunts, people might be able to get more PvP revives.
I wish healers revived fastest and all other character could upgrade (for 3 spots) default revive speeds. If this was implemented with a solo taunt, I think many more revives would be earned and many more people would be encouraged to play healers.
