Forum Discussion
@iluminatethesky Hello 😇
Everyone who signs the petition and comments here knows the chances of it making a significant impact are very small. I guess the reason why we all still try is the last paragraph of the announcement, which says: "This announcement may change as we listen to community feedback and continue developing and evolving our Live Service & Content."
I believed it was included to give the impression EA cares about their customers and to make the community less upset and just marketing, but I don't recall EA ever saying "this could change after community feedback" about a game's cancellation. I remain pessimistic, but this statement has given me a tiny bit of hope that Iceburg Lettuce or the finished customizations & upgrades will be released. It would even make sense from EA's perspective as a profit oriented company. The team has worked on this content for 6 months and the labour put into it was expensive. Iceburg Lettuce is nearly finished and if it were to be released, it would definitely increase the game's sales by a bit. It wouldn't be much, but a small amount of profit is better than none at all.
Another thing I thought about is the next gen consoles: Sony has confirmed every PS4 game will work on PS5 automatically and developers need to actively opt-out if they don't want this to happen. I know I'm foolish for even thinking about it, but since the BfN team is already working on a new game, maybe EA is considering letting another team continue development for just a small amount of time to give the game a huge boost in sale when these consoles launch. The game was received very well by the press and if * had some marketing, I'm certain it would appeal to many. The PvZ shooters are the only child friendly shooters with mainstream appeal, next to Splatoon, which is a Nintendo exclusive. As there won't be many exciting games at launch for these new consoles, with many launching in early 2021, I think this would make a lot of sense. The more realistic outcome would be EA releasing the game on the new consoles without any new content, though, which would be a huge missed opportunity, in my point of view.
Even if this doesn't help, it at least shows there is indeed a dedicated BfN community and that PvZ is a loved franchise which should see more games being released in the future. As you said, it is nice to come together as a community and try 🙂, even if the outcome is uncertain or most likely negative. We all make sure not to get our hopes up, but if EA really doesn't even intend on changing something after our feedback, then they shouldn't say so in their office communication.
I see where you're coming from. Like I said, it's great that people are backing this Petition, but unfortunately it won't do much. I understand the core player base and/or community has a lot of Passion for this game, and the Plants vs Zombies franchise.
Some of the key BFN developers have already moved onto other things, so it's highly unlikely we'll see a comeback for this game.
They barely marketed Battle for Neighborville, a lot of people didn't even know it was a thing, outside the Plants vs Zombies community. There were no announcements and/or Marketing at EA Play either. Plus, even when they gave away a ton of copies for "Stay and Play" when the whole Pandemic started, they still had a tough time keeping those players.
In conclusion, there has been a lot of ups and downs with this game.
Hopefully the next Title (if there is one...) will be a better improvement from BFN.

@Fork_x_SpoonLike wolfy also said: honestly I'm not surprised, I'm more surprised its taken them this long to do it.
I'm honestly shocked anyone is suprised bfn turned out this way when it is the most poorly recieved game in and out of the fandom, literally no marketing, incentive to play, * poor excuse of balancing, lacklister updates, and the closed doors build up to its release (I remember the leaks seriously dissapointed people in artstyle and design).I get the game has its fans and their some pretty dedicated people but that dosent automatically make it good and fun to play.

@iluminatethesky Yeah I know it won't do much, but the last paragraph really makes me wonder why they are actually asking for community feedback. If anything, what will happened based on that feedback?
I actually made a whole thread about it and analyzing the statement in multiple languages: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/About-the-quot-This-announcement-can-change-we-listen-quot-part/m-p/9464935#M26937
While the English one just says "this announcement", all other versions make it clear the entire contents of the announcement are subject to change after fan feedback. Why would they include it if they don't intend on doing anything?
I'm sure that if EA hadn't neglected the game and marked it more it would have been a huge success.
And I agree with you, hopefully a future PvZ shooter, if made, will be more successful (although I don't think BfN is bad).
I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank you for helping people who have technical difficulties with the game. I have seen many posts from you in that forum, so thanks 🙂. I'm very active in the General Discussion board so I haven't really noticed you awesome community activity until recently.
@Fork_x_Spoon I don't want to sound rude, but I think quoting that particular toxic person isn't a good think. He has a tiny fan base compared to the whole PvZ "fandom" and I have seen you say "just continue playing gw2 it is better" in other threads. I don't understand why you would tell people who love a game to quit it because "it's dead" when you play a way older game with fewer players that isn't being updated, not even with minor improvements.
@stukapooka Gw2 also had terrible balancing in the beginning and it only got better when it didn't receive updates. And again, I don't think the guy you are quoting is qualified to make any statements about the situation. He said he hated BfN from the beginning, but kept making videos about it to milk it for his personal profit. And by his logic, gw2 should have been canceled the moment it launched due to its many problems when it was first released ... .
Again, I don't want to sound insulting, but I have to ask you why you keep making such negative posts in every thread, even unrelated ones? The people trying to save the game only give small updates in the petition thread and always say "we know it won't work and we are pessimistic" in order not to get such comments en masse. Many people have expressed what they dislike about the game and that the petition won't work but they don't do it in every thread.
