Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare 2 - Progress issue

I know that this game is old, but I recently started playing it again on my ps4. I decided that I want to level up the astronaut (scientist). I played for a couple and hours and then went back to the main area. However my astronaut was still at the same level as before I started. I even had the Character Upgraide equiped with it being locked (I had lost levels). It seems to me that for some reason progress from multiplayer disapears (xp from the main area doesnt). Does anyone have a solution?
