Plants Vs Zombies GW2 A Great Family Game

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a great family game. With it's colorful art style, kid friendly mechanics, awesome story mode, and co-op or couch co-op game-play not only is it great for the family it is just fun to play all around. Back before my son was born the wife and I played the first part of this series and it was almost the complete opposite. Between it's co-op mode being mostly defending from invasions and it being incredibly difficult it seemed like the game hit it's limits. To tell you the truth I wasn't to sure about part 2, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only can you join the other persons game outside of pvp/pve environments, but you can just hang out around town and try out your different plants or zombies. This is a bonus because there are a lot of different plants and zombies this time to try out. They range from fire types to toxic and many others all being able to be unlocked without having to pay real money. Of course to unlock them you have to put in the time, but from pvp to pve there are many different options to collect stars, coins, and chest. As I said before, if you have just one system to play on no problem just turn on couch co-op and then jam away. Another great Aspect is the fact that if you want to practice the pvp modes, but don't want to deal with the highly competitive or the people who might be further ahead than you then you can also make the portal a private match where its just you vs the bots. That means no highly ranked individual wrecking and then talking trash in the lobby. Also since you can still collect stars, do mission board objectives, and get tones of coins you not only get experience, but you also get your creatures up to par as well.
That being said, I would like to talk about some of the problems that I had with the game mostly being the pvp. I know in today's society the word unbalanced gets tossed around a lot, but for this game I think it truly reigns true. I can't tell you how many times that I have either had to carry my team to victory or just completely get wrecked by the other team because they all were all star competitive players. I noticed there is a semi ranking system but it doesn't seem to match you with liked individuals or give you the option to play with casual players. There is no alternative to those to aspect's really. I try to play the game with my 7 year old son and he can rack up kills, but when it comes to the really competitive people it discourages him a lot. Sure its a matter of getting better and hell I get angry at it as well, but I can't help and think that it can be polished a little better with love and care. Other than that the only thing I don't like about the game is that I can't do story missions with co-op mode. I like that I can do almost anything else, but I can't enjoy the story with my son.
In conclusion, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a great game that gives you hours of fun and enjoyment. Its great for co-op and family fun, but could use some tweaking to make it just a little more family friendly. The pvp is fun and can break the monotony of just fighting bots or grinding defense missions to gain gold and have bigger rewards for gold if you dare, but can sometimes seem completely unbalanced. It is a far-cry from the first game that came out, but if they just worked on those minor details I think this game or future installments of the franchise can really thrive. Thank you for your time reading my review and have a great day.

  • The above is your correct answer.  It can take a REALLY long time for the download.  Several months ago I was dealing with a problem of not getting content from a deluxe upgrade, and one of the fixes I had to try was to delete and reinstall the game via download.  It took at least three hours.

Great to hear that your family enjoys the game. As with other online multiplayer games, GW2 has its ups and downs--most of both you mentioned I agree with.

The main thing I don't like is the time-gated content and the huge lot of time you'd have to invest in order to get stickers you'd want. The main thing I like is playing with friends and randoms, and having fun or goofy moments whenever they stick out.

    And... welcome to the forum!

  • As stated above... welcome.  If you have any issues/questions/opinions/discussion ideas , feel free to express yourself.  Just remember these three quotes:

"Age is an issue of mind over matter if you don't mind, it doesn't matter." (Mark Twain)

"A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject." (Winston Churchill)

"The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but be progress." (Joseph Joubert)

  • Some really good points in your post OP. I played GW1 but play GW2 more and many of your points hit on this well. For example in GW1 if you had an enchanted garden to defend or a treasure yeti wave in garden ops and picked up the coins that dropped only you got credit while in GW2 the whole team does which I feel is a massive improvement as the old system encouraged people to be greedy to grab the coin drops. Also the pots were far too easy to vanquish compared to the 2nd game, they are still sitting ducks but are more useful in general than in GW1.

The balance has long been discussed and batted around on the forums and elsewhere. There is work to be done and I don’t agree with all the previous balance changes but they are working on it. The latest tweet from Justin Wiebe (The game’s creative director) indicated that Citrons are getting nerfed but more changes are needed (Captain Squawk needs help for example) and presumably are coming based on what we’ve seen from the devs lately.

    HI folks.

I'm useless at all this and new to it. I'm letting my 9 year old son down badly. We've just got a playstation 4 and downloaded Plant v Zombies garden warefare 2. He seems to be stuck at the start in Moon Nexus and then in other stages playing against the computer. He just wants to play online but we don't know how to get there!!! Help please!!!

  • First question is, has the game fully downloaded? I am assuming you have the deluxe edition, which includes the moon nexus to allow you to play a sort of demo map while the main game downloads. If this is the case, go to your downloads bar on your PS4 and re-activate the GW2 download.

Otherwise in the main hub world, Backyard Battleground, there is a huge portal in each base. Next to the portal is a small machine that has a button prompt, the machine should produce couple options, one of which is multiplayer.
