problem with accepting invites

I recently got PvZ GW2 on steam to play with my friends. 2 of us bought it from steam, while 1 uses the ea app to launch his. Whenever I try to join any of my friend's games, i get this error message saying...
Oh No!

There was a problem accepting the invite to the game session.
i've tried many different solutions: Clean Restart, Restarting the ea app, running it in administrator, changing firewall settings and nothing ive done has seemed to work
