PvZ RPG cancelled (?)

The official PvZ Twitter account confirmed that it was only a prototype. Apparently, it never entered production, although the post from the head of PopCap Seattle said they would show a new PvZ game soon. To remind you, that was in October when the current version of PvZ 3 was cancelled.

  • @benn1nat0rA possible reason was due to backlash at the time of another spinoff game as the survey wasn't well received (we've gone through 3 before pvz 3) and bfn not being recieved well when it launched.

I really hope they can turn pvz 3 around after the delay because pvz really needs a win right now (is it too much to ask for a game to improve upon what came before it while still keeping core gameplay formula the same, it feels like they just cant get what tone pvz is meant to be after pvz1 and refusing to make console versions that would make then more money).

  • @stukapooka Honestly they should just put PvZ on Switch, including PvZ 2 Complete Edition with no MTX. No doubt they made a lot of money from putting the first game on the 360, I don't know why they stopped.

@shurikeninja Pvz 1 had a ps3, ds, Xbox, and PC ports that each had a few minor minigame differences per system that put the game on the map. I remember when pvz 2 was announced a lot of people were turned off by the concept of the sequel to pvz 1 being mobile only and looks like the reception to pvz 3 was even more extreme in that regard.

If popcap really thought 3d would make the series stand out more than console would have been a better desinging platform than mobile.

I honestly think that if pvz 1 was mobule from the start as it is now under EA it wouldn't nearly be as popular.

I wish EA would support the PvZ games better. It's a popular and beloved IP and yet it's in such an odd place.

I got the original back on Steam when PopCap was still independent and on my phone later and that game, since it doesn't have MTX or live updates has been solid and fun for many years.

PvZ2 was fun and the first thing I installed on my smart phone when I finally got one, but haven't touched it in a couple years as they focus on the battle mode and there's blatant cheaters there, and of course too many plants that cost real money.

Heroes was so good at first and I loved the PvZ take on games like Magic: The Gathering. But that game lacks support and I haven't touched that one in years either. It's sad as I love the concept and it hits 3 of mt favorite things (board/card games, video games, and PvZ).

For the shooters; even on PC it's not difficult to get decent matches on all 3 games, even the original GW which is 7 years old! And yet, BfN got cut off abruptly, GW2 has too many hackers on PC, and their servers were a mess this weekend, especially in BfN. There is obviously a large audience for the shooters so the lack of support and/or announcement of a new game is frustrating and mind-boggling.

PvZ3 was not well received and while some of the ideas didn't sound bad, the presentation wasn't the best and I'm curious to see how it changes when it's re-leased.

I saw a survey on the RPG and I was kind of iffy on it, but now it may never see the light of day, and I'd at least give it a look as it's PvZ.

I admit that what I really want is a new shooter that has support for years and has a ton of stuff to do, characters to play, better netcode (so we don't have so many hit detection issues), functions better, and is better balanced, and promoted.

@Iron_Guard8 The main problem with pvz3 is that its a mobile game with a pvz skin.

2 was fun but the updates have dragged it down over time.

Heroes deserved better than what it got, especially when it was still popular and theyve practically removed carotina and huge gicanticas.

I want a new shooter as badly as the next guy but I fear bfn may truly be the franchise killer in that regard (with the amount of third entires that tank franchises by pointless innovation its a blessing in disguise valve can't count to three at this point). with Vancouver's situation being a confusing mess.
