Re: Captain Deadbeard Character Challenge Guide - Springening

My character challenge tips are as follows:

Earn 5,000 XP as Captain Deadbeard.

Use the "Levelling Up" upgrade on your Captain Deadbeard for 10% extra XP, meaning that you should have an easier time completing this challenge. 2-3 successful game of Ops or Skirmishes should net you this challenge, or playing in PvP which should not take you long either. It does not matter what approach you take towards completing this challenge, as long as you always try to earn XP where you can, such as earning a vanquish, revive, or saving an ally, for instance. Just play the game to obtain this challenge. You should complete this challenge before completing all the rest of them, so hopefully you shouldn't even have to worry about completing this challenge too much.

Earn 50 Fully Charged Spyglass Shot Vanquishes.

This does require you to vanquish an enemy with a Spyglass Shot which has been fully charged. Despite needing 50 vanquishes, this should not be hard to complete, as your Spyglass Shot when fully charged deals a lot of damage. You can simply go into Giddy Park (preferably Private), make sure you turn Al on to appear in Giddy Park, wait for Wildflowers to land into Giddy Park, charge up a shot, and then shoot them, the Wildflower will get vanquished and you will get a point. Doing this in Ops or a Skirmish is a good idea as well as you can focus on using your Spyglass Shot to pick off weak enemies, however for the stronger enemies, you may have to land many fully charged shots to vanquish them, so be patient. Make sure you wait and fully charge your Spyglass before shooting, as otherwise you won't earn points towards this challenge. If you are trying to complete this challenge in PvP, focus sniping enemies with low health or enemies that have been damaged, because your fully charged Spyglass does a lot of damage, you should be able to vanquish them. Sniping enemies that have limited mobility such as Oak is also recommended as even though they tend to have a lot of health, you can easily damage them. Just make sure to keep your distance from them!

Upgrades that can assist with this challenge include:

  • Aye Spy, it costs 3 points, while charging up a Spyglass Shot, you get increased zoom, making it that bit easier to hit opponents.
  • Freebie, it costs 3 points, when vanquishing an enemy with a fully charged Spyglass Shot, you get 4 ammo, allowing you to have enough extra ammo for another fully charged shot.
  • Adrenaline Rush, it costs 4 upgrade points, when you get a vanquish, you get a small burst of movement speed, allowing you to more easily move to a different location.

Deal 300 Damage in Barrel Blast. #

There is a catch to completing this challenge, I believe you have to deal 300 damage in a single use of Barrel Blast, meaning you must deal a total of 300 damage to all enemies in one go, but you can damage enemies separately. As you can deal up to 150 damage on a single enemy with a Barrel Blast, you simply have to do the maximum damage to 2 enemies. You are not required to get vanquishes with Barrel Blast. For this reason, Giddy Park, Ops and Skirmishes are good as enemies tend to group up a lot. Then you can use your Barrel Blast in a safer location, set off your barrel, and then run at the enemies. You should easily get this challenge. If not, try again after you get your Barrel again. This is excellent against weeds as they tend to get close to you and don't care if you are in your Barrel. If you are trying to complete this challenge in PvP, wait for the enemy team to group up, and try to get behind them to get in maximum damage, and you should easily get this quest. This is great in objectives like Surbination as enemies tend to cluster a lot, so make use of this ability and this challenge if you are playing an objective gamemode.

An upgrade that can assist with this challenge is Incoming Keg, it costs 3 points, you move faster in your Barrel Blast ability, allowing you to close the distance more quickly. When you set your Barrel off, you are very fast and enemies are going to have a harder time avoiding this ability.

Deal 800 Damage in Parrot Pal. #

This is regardless of if you deal damage with your Parrot Pulse or your Eggsplosion ability, you simply need to deal damage to enemies while you are in Parrot Pal. You don't need to deal 800 damage with one attempt of your Parrot, you can use your Parrot as many times as you need. As your Parrot has low health and your Pirate can't take damage while using your Parrot Pal ability (otherwise your ability gets cancelled). For that reason, it's probably good to perform this challenge in Ops or Skirmishes, or possibly Giddy Park. Just note that the Al have Aimbot so they can easily shoot down your Parrot, be careful with it and try and keep your distance. However, bosses seem to focus more on trying to find you rather than attack your Parrot, so you may be able to deal lots of damage upon the boss (you are not required to vanquish an enemy or boss). Using your Eggsplosion's Parrot ability with groups of enemies is extremely effective because it deals heavy direct and splash damage, especially in Ops if enemies begin to pile around the graveyard or Skirmishes if allies are clustered. If you are trying to complete this challenge in PvP, try and keep a safe distance from your enemies so it's less likely for them to destroy your parrot and try to move around a lot so it's even harder for your enemies to destroy your Parrot, use your Eggsplosion if there are groups of clustered enemy players to maximise your damage. As a general tip, always try and use your Parrot ability in a safe location to reduce your chances of being vanquished while using this ability.

Upgrades that can assist with this challenge include:

  • Wind Chilled, it costs 3 points, your Parrot Pal overheats slower while using your Parrot Pulse, meaning you can land more shots and deal more damage with your Parrot.
  • Plunder, it costs 3 points, when dealing critical damage with your Parrot Pal's Parrot Pulse weapon, your Eggsplosion's refresh time is reduced, allowing you to use it more.

Vanquish 15 Heroes after Using Anchor's Away.

This challenge requires you to use your Anchor's Away and then vanquish an enemy after you have used this ability. Just note that you must vanquish plant heroes (such as Peashooter) to count towards this challenge. Bosses and weeds do not count for this challenge. You have a short amount of time after using your Anchor's Away to get the vanquish, so make haste (approx. 3-4 seconds, needs confirmation). Actually vanquishing the hero enemy with the Anchor counts for this challenge as well, so if your Hero enemy is on low health you may want to try and directly hit the enemy using the anchor. For this challenge, it's best to weaken enemies before attempting to use your Anchor's Away to finish them as they are much more likely to get vanquished after you use the Anchor, or with the Anchor. I recommend doing Battle Chests as all the enemies you are up against are Heroes. Weaken the enemies before you go in and finish them off. Your anchor provides mobility and recharges fast so it should not take you long to complete this challenge. If you are trying to complete this challenge in PvP, you may have a harder time because players tend to sprint away when they get lower on health, so you're unlikely to net the vanquish. Something you could do is wait for an enemy to get weakened, or weaken an enemy yourself, then try to go in with your Anchor and attempt to finish the enemy off.

Upgrades that can assist with this challenge include:

  • Heavy Metal, it costs 4 points, when you land from your anchor, for a short time, you gain automatic instant max charge on your Spyglass Shot. You have a limited time to use your free fully charged shot. If you get a vanquish with this free fully charged Spyglass Shot, it counts towards this challenge.
  • Shore Leave, it costs 4 points, after using your Anchor's Away, you gain a movement speed boost for a short time. Use this to have increased mobility while trying to vanquish the enemy.
  • Long Barrel, it costs 3 points, your Scurvy Scattershot primary attack (not your charge up sniper attack) has less spread, which is useful if you try to vanquish the enemy Hero using your Scattershot after using your Anchor.

Upgrades that refresh abilities faster such as Refreshing Revive and Critical Blow can help as you can use your abilities more often.

That's all for now! 🙂
