I really wish they would make a GW3. GW2 is still so good, but the lack of new stuff and new players unable to get certain things done doesn't sit well. It'd also be nice to see the classic GW maps with the new characters and variants in GW2, which would require a new title. It's a shame more isn't done with these shooters these days.

@Iron_Guard8 Its a shame the new players wont get to see the game at it's best. Shame it couldn't in some way be given to the community to work on it because there are plenty of passionate fans who would love to fix things with the game.
@dastrictor shame they couldn't give out the license to a small dev studio or something like they did with pvz match and just see what they cook up. Maybe even give them a chance to relight hope for a 3rd entry. - Iron_Guard82 years agoLegend
Considering that the original GW was a surprise hit for EA, the fact that GW2 performed even better should speak volumes. BfN didn't live up to GW games, but it wasn't a complete flop, unlike something like Redfall for example, and while I'm not a huge fan of BfN I did get my money's worth from it, and it has some fun ideas and UI improvements, just wish they had made it more like the GW games to start with.
There are a bunch of GW2 videos popping up on YouTube these days. Some are from tiny channels, but some bigger ones have been playing, Mattshea has a series just starting up and he's having a blast with the quests, it brings back happy memories to see. Hero shooters like this aren't in their heyday, with very mixed views on a couple upcoming ones (such as Concord and Marvel Rivals), but the PvZ shooters are still my goto games these days, it'd be great to have a new one, that respects its roots while taking us forward.

I wanted to add since I went and checked Steam Charts on a lark and saw that GW has over 4k players in it right now! That's good stuff since PC is not as populated as consoles, and a lot of us got the game before it was on Steam. An 8 year old game in the highly competitive hero shooter space with no active support doing that well is astounding! Imagine if it had full support and/or news of a sequel...

@Iron_Guard8The fact that gw2 still does well is just a testament to the game itself.
Hero shooters probably peaked back in 2016 when overwatch and paladins came out before they inspired a crowded market that gw thankfully slipped in before hand but after that it was a painful decline when everybody and their mother started putting hero shooter mechanics into games that didn't even usually do them.Did black ops 4 and battlefield 2042 really need the "quirky" character casts with unique abilities gameplay design?
A lot of them also just cant bring anything new to the table either that hasn't already been done. A cartoony artstyle has been used for practically all of then so it's not like it's a unique highlight these days. Nor is a cast of oh so "relatable" characters.
Been putting together a 5 year look back post on bfn and a tangent on modern hero shooters is definetly something I'm adressing. Yeah the only good thing to say about this situation is that this old game, despite of all of its problems, does very well. Steam alone reports numbers other online games could only dream of:

A couple days ago the Steam version alone was just shy of 10000 active players, and thats only Steam players. There is definitely potential.
But things are complicated.

@Screion I was monitoring the steam charts for pvz gw2 a few days back and I said in a different forum that it would be a great idea to add some content to some of the older pvz titles because it would shine some light and show how great the games really were.
- DecreeNo92 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Iron_Guard8 At present, there are still many people paying attention to PVZ. Although it has been 5 years, there may still be some opportunities. The current number of online player is relatively high. Although the Community Manager said that there are currently no plans, if EA can discover the commercial value of PVZ and seize the opportunity, may bring some new PVZ, but it may take a long time
- VanBear8562 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
@DecreeNo9 You are exactly right. EA thinks that just because PvZ is very old and because most of the games aren't receiving much of, or any updates, it as no fanbase or anything to it. That's not true though because PvZ still has a high value even in 2024 and a dedicated fanbase.

@DecreeNo9 @VanBear856
Its come to light a while back they had several pvz games in development that all got scrapped or canned. One former popcap dev even called it "The greatest waste of talent he had ever seen".
Pvz seems to sadly be stuck in the loop of producers wanting money but never actually doing anything to get more fans/players which leads to more money.
They want a garden ripe harvest with no gardening essentially. - VanBear8562 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
@stukapooka Yeah it is a great series but there is so much greed to where nothing good comes of it.

Hello Everyone!
So, thanks to @Screion's link to the Steam stats page, it got me thinking about support and updates.
We all know that there isn't a team any longer to support the game, but here we are! Still playing. We are still having fun!
I am tossing together some info to send up the chain, and I need your help!
I need you to post as much data as you can on traffic. Hitting almost 10K on one platform is a perfect start. It may not be as large as College Football, but the fans still love the series.
What I need from you is pretty simple, if you can. I need screenshots of as much info as you can send me so that I can send that up and get some more eyes on the series. I cannot promise any type of update to the game, servers, content, etc., but we do need to get things rolling on how we, and I mean peeps like me, can support you, the players, as best as we can.
Maximum Effort Mode!
Cheers!

@VanBear856 That's quite a bit up since the game used to sit at 8/10 to 88% positive reviews. The game definetly shot up and there are more player reviews now so this is the result of a larger review pool.

I really hope this helps, I've been playing PvZ GW2 since its release and I still consider it the best shooter
- stukapooka2 years agoLegend
@EA_Shepard It would probably help if you or someone else could also send info to the gw subreddit regarding this idea so they could send you even more info here.
- VanBear8562 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Yeah we need to announce this to more people hopefully someone like Redhead finds out and makes a video

The port to Steam made alone $1M. While that isn't a huge number for a AAA game, the fact it's an 8 year old title without support is impressive considering it's a port to one platform.
Additionally, 500K people bought the game on Steam alone in the past 2 years. Despite there being no support or team, it's clear people want more of the game!

I'm tempted to get the steam version of gw2 now, even though I can't run it, just to help the cause. I wish there was a way to see console player count data too
