Re: Limiting Variants

I would agree with this if this was Quke 3 Team Arena (a version of Quake 3 with runes that give you unique class-like abilities) , TF2 Highlander/6s or competitive Overwatch, but in a purely pub based game like this, their is no reason. The game is mostly played by kids or casuals that don't care if they (ab)use an OP character or if their team is stacked with 7 Deadbeards/Cacti on offense. They want to play whatever they want and they should. This would be great for a competitive mode, but this is an absurd just for fun shooter designed for casuals and kids like GW+ (despite some people saying it's a hyper competitive niche shooter), so this idea would go against the whole mentality of the game. If a competitive mode is added, a class and variant limit is of course mandatory, but people that wan't to play competitive and win the game are capable of building working teams, even without communication. And if you accuse me of only playing the OP Plants and Zombies, I have to ask you if you consider Iron Citron, the Golf Star and the Camo Cactus (my main variants at this moment) OP.

I would agree with that Seal. I love the idea of a competitive game mode. The point of my post was purely balance based. It's quite obvious that balance is a huge issue in this game. I think I'm pretty resigned to the fact that this game will never be balanced well due to the quantity of variants. One of the best ways to balance the game is by limiting the use of the OP characters. (Even if electro brainz gets fixed, we all know a new one will take over.)

In your case, you won't be affected considering your choice of characters, because there's never more than 2 camo cacti on the same team. (My personal experience obviously.)

I think if you were to use your logic of, " it doesn't matter because only kids and casuals play the game" is a poor one at best. Just because the player base is more lax, doesn't mean that we should excuse a poor balance of it.

As aware as I am of the overall player base, I think it's also important to note the exponential decline in that player base. I wish EA/PopCap would publish their player base at the first month vs. now. I think it's pretty easy to tell that a large chunk of players have left and moved on, and the only once left are the super casuals, and people like me who just play because of the potential the game actually has.

Obviously, this all a personal opinion and everything is interpreted through a different set of eyes.
