Re: Mixed Mode Has No Turf Takeover

@spIash_damageYes, those 2 more than the others! Btw, have you done much more mixed mode? I play turf more often, but tried having games a couple of times yesterday & found the lobbies only had about 4 per team. Bit worrying, or unlucky
do you think???

I have been too busy with work to play much.

I wouldn’t be too concerned as the balance patch and official release should keep lobbies full again...

However, I do find it telling that lobbies aren’t full (lobbies stay full on PS4 from what I’ve seen.)

To be honest, for me Turf Takeover in Mixed mode in GW1&2 was always unnecessary because TT mode on PC was well populated and other modes didn't. So when I wanted to play Gnome bomb, Wanquish confirmed and Suburbination I used mix mode.

And in BfN they separated Team Vanquish and Vanquish Confirmed because they are basically same and that's good for me!

  • @Fiky39 I know what you mean, but I think TT will be missed from mixed mode by a big section of the PvZ community who play exclusively mixed mode. They play mixed because it has all of the modes, without playing the same thing back to back, which can get boring. I mainly play turf & ops but I jump into mixed occasionally for the same reason and certainly on my server, while you often see turf players in mixed, you very rarely see mixed mode players in turf. It's like a separate community.
I don't think it's a make or break issue, but I do think some people will be disappointed

Mixed mode would probably be a perfect fit for my idea about a mode where you just play the final turf from a turf takeover map. It would be closer to the amount of time it takes to play the other modes in Mixed Mode.
  • @newbebop Yes, though tbh whenever I've played turf in mixed mode, it's generally a quick game that's less frustrating than in the dedicated turf lobby, because everyone just gets on with the objectives. It's often more fun!

@ToastedSarnie Yeah, I get super annoyed sometimes with how many players are trying to get their kill numbers up instead of capturing objectives. That's the worst part of TT.

As far as lobby populations, it's been full or close to it in the games I've played most of the time. I'll see it depopulate between matches sometimes to as low as 4v4 but then fill back up again over the course of the match. I've not played mixed mode in BfN yet, mostly TT and a little TV.

I gotta be honest, I LOVE Mixed Mode with no TT but your final stage (exclusively) idea would be PERFECT for Mixed Mode.

I didn't mind Mixed Mode with TT aside from the fact it takes soooo long and there's two games in a row (I know the devs intended for one attack/one defend but team swappers make it so you play the same role twice almost every TT rotation).

Either one round of TT or two of your idea would be great.  (I'd prefer your idea with two rounds and no option to team swap).

I think that part of the reason the new TT maps are only 4 points is to address the length issue. They were up to 7 stages in GW1, all were 6 in GW2, and now they're all 4. TT has always been my favorite mode as it has objectives, access to all the consumables, and I like that if the attackers win, the map essentially changes mid-game.

@Iron_Guard8 The time issue was why I figured they had reduced the capture points to 4 as well. Unfortunately, because they replaced team member weighted capturing with the capture point being contested by a single player halting all progress, it still takes approximately the same amount of time as GW1 & 2 most matches. That needs to be addressed.

@newbebopAgreed. The new capture point mechanic makes capturing worse and then throwing the new overtime time onto it can make some points drag on forever. I like tense, close matches, but they need to not go on so long.
