Re: My Steam Blaster Review

The upgrade is OP at short distance, but thats the idea, the problem is the mobility the scientist has, three warps is too much, they should remove one or two warps when using the upgrade

  • I managed to unlock the Steam Blaster this morning and tried it out in a couple of games of Ops- for the record I have not yet played PvP using it nor have I yet been involved in any PvP match on either side where a Scientist was using it so my initial impression is only from a PvE standpoint.

My initial impression is that the Upgrade is fun to use and it's very clearly intended to change the focus of the Scientist from being primarily a Support character to that of being an Assault character. When Kernal Corn's Legendary Upgrade originally launched I stated elsewhere that I believed that Legendary Upgrades were likely going to become BfN's way of introducing variant characters and with what Rose and Scientist have received since then it does seem that this is the case.

It is obviously capable of putting out a lot of damage which is offset by a low ammo count and a slow rate of fire but that's clearly necessary for the weapon to be properly balanced.

I was expecting the range to be really, really short in the manner of the Chemist in GW2 where you pretty much needed to be breathing on the Plants to inflict any damage so I was surprised that it seemed to have about the same range as Snap Dragon's Flame Blower.

I imagine that I'll keep a build of the Scientist with Steam Blower, for times I want to play more aggressively and a more traditional build for when I want to fall back into a more Support oriented role.
