Just got the same issue as you. Penny pursuit, screen is clear of zombies, game keeps going back to the level and nothing happens.
Did it ever work out for you?

Heya,
I ended up backing up the game, deleting it from my phone and redownloading it. While it fixed that issue... I am encountering several issues during both transition screens and ads that the game doesn't come back up, and I have to force close or it closes itself.
So, I truly don't know if my "solution" is all that helpful in the long run.
