Re: Split Screen Quests???

I highly doubt the quests can be done in split screen at all....from my understanding the second person in split screen is like a guest player, and it actually limits what you can do. For one thing the split screen player can't like unlock stuff unless they have their own EA account. Secondly, you can't do online at all. Thirdly, they don't get access to anything you have already unlocked. It's possible they may change that in the future and I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.

Well, you're partially right.  I've been playing split screen and my daughter uses her own account as do I.  The person who initiates the split screen is the leader and is the only one able to speak to special characters and initiate other game modes from the Backyard.

However, my daughter levels up with her own account as we split screen. She has unlocked her own characters separate from my unlocks.  She can buy sticker packs that only unlock for her account.  She has her own money, inventory, etc.  We can play garden ops together, join multiplayer in split screen, run around the backyard and she gains her own xp and credits that carry over to her game.

The second player is not added as a guest but logs in with their own unique gamertag and account.  (I'm on XB1, and it is true for XBOX...I can't speak for PS4 or PC, but I would assume they're the same?) and each character retains their own things while in split screen.  As the second player, you can do anything you would do in your own backyard except initiating other game modes.  That's left up to the first person who signs in first and starts the session.

The ONLY thing that we can't do is quests.  Now maybe EA intended this to be SP only, but if so, this is disappointing that they didn't disclose this fact.  Their own FAQ page on this game boasts how EVERY mode in the game will be playable with couch co-op.  Here's a quote from their own FAQ page.

    "

    What are the multiplayer options?

There is up to 24-player online multiplayer and up to 4-player online co-op. Or if you prefer to play with friends locally, you can play with or against a friend in split screen across every mode on Xbox One and PS4. That’s right – from the comfort of your own couch you and a friend can enjoy every mode of the game in split screen, and even play on opposing sides! You will be able to play co-operatively with a friend online, but it will not be split screen."

It's disappointing because they advertised it this way.  I really bought this for me and my daughter to enjoy the full game together in split-screen.  She's not much for competitive multiplayer as she's only 6 years old, but she loves this game and wants to do the quests with me.  Not the end of the world, she still loves the game...just wish EA would have been more specific about which modes are supported and which aren't vs. saying that EVERY mode is split screen.

I mean to be fair there is no "Quest Mode" or "Story Mode". So they weren't lying. And I understand why you can't do the quests with another person. Half of them are just "Walk here, press B on this".

Well to be fair, there is no "Multiplayer Mode" either, lol.  They just call it a multiplayer portal.  The lack of the word "Mode" doesn't mean that it isn't a mode in the game.  It simply goes without saying.  Multiplayer is a mode in the game, just as single player is a mode in the game.  Just because they don't use the word "mode" in the wording within the game, doesn't mean it isn't a mode.

Fact remains, EA used wording to make split screen and couch co-op seem to be an all-inclusive aspect of the game.  Hey I realize the quest experience might not be the coolest thing to you, or something you feel is just "Walk here press B", but to a little kid, the idea of playing a game together with her dad is what it was all about for her and for me.  To a 6 year old, it's a big deal, even if I couldn't care less about it. lol.

Like I said, it's not huge deal...just a little disappointing.

but with all my griping about no quest mode in split screen, Nice job for even having split screen- co op at all and making it a near full experience...it's great and it's a lot more than what almost any other game offers in terms of a couch co-op experience.  Kudos for allowing the experience with unique player accounts with all the unlocks, xp and progression that come with it.

As far as I'm concerned any split screen that doesn't have massive * black bars on either side of the screen is great split screen.
