I just want to note that this also happens on Solo Mode/Splitscreen so it's not only a multiplayer issue,

I also couldn't notice what the issue here is. It's possible that specific attacks suddenly make the counter reset to 0. I mostly notice that when a lot of plants and zombies are on the zone however.
