Rux's shop scares me

Is it just me or am I terrified about rux's shop. Today I watched the livestream and saw what it was about. I am going over pros and *. PROS: they are giving us 500 free rainbow stars. You can get 150 rainbow stars from the map. The cosmetics look amazing. You can also get rainbow stars from weekly challenges. *: they didn't say when they would give us the 500 stars so we could already miss out on the first line of cosmetic maybe more. The pricing is outrageous, 10 dollars for a skin, that's worse then the upgrades. I did the math and its 22 dollars for all of the stuff we saw on the live stream. The weekly challenges will only in my guess give out 300 to 500 stars, you have to remember this is for 1 whole week which leads me to my next topic. These could have been just some place holder dates but if true it will be bad. See if you look at the times the items were on shop for the highest was only 5 DAYS and lowest was only 6 Hours. Technically weekly and daily. This is way to little of time to get everything. That means if you want to get everything you need to pay at least 100 dollars a month if you dont want to grind but if you do grind it's still like 50 dollars a month. since all the grinding wont get you all those rainbow stars. since 20 dollars a week and there's 4 weeks in a month And if you grind then you basically cut the 100 dollars in half and the thing is I dont know if once the item is off the shelf if its permanently gone or if it will take months if not an entire year for it to return like we saw in rux in gw2. Those are my main problems with this new rux shop their adding in. I love pvz and I have loved it since gw1 and I was so excited about this December update but rux kinda killed it for me. Ya I will be doing the prize map but I still want those other cosmetics. People may be like "it's only cosmetics so why get butt hurt" but I'm a collector and I want all the cosmetics in the game but at this point it's impossible. I wont stop playing the game but this killed a lot of motivation I had for it. I want to see what you people think about this and get your opinions. Be happy out there and sorry for the rant.

Valid concerns as most had the impression micro transactions wouldn’t be in the game.
Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into a money bucket!

@kingcodered I dont think the items in ruxs inventory will be available for a limited time. Surely it would be on a rotation of items? You can choose to either save your rainbow stars for next months items or buy some of the cheaper rux exclusives. They are doing things "1 lever" at a time so we'll see how rux goes. It would be weird if people could quickly get the legendary items though.

@kingcodered You're not the only one! I'm not a collector in that I HAVE to have everything, but it would be nice to get everything you can. This game doesn't have the fun of unlocking characters as the other games did, so the customisations are the main thing to aim for - if the majority are out of reach without spending lots of money, or it's going to make it a serious grind every week / month, that's going to kill the fun of the game. I have a horrible feeling the weekly challenges won't give as many stars as you estimate, as well.
I'm going to wait & see what next month's like but have a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach about where this is all going to take the game 😬

@ToastedSarnie you are absolutely right. Before the bulb fix I was considering of leaving the game for a bit cause it wasn't fun and there is only four things to grind for In this game currently mr reward atron, levels, regions, and bulbs that's it. Once you do all of that you have nothing to do. In previous games it was almost endless. I am glad they are maxing the level cap so I go back to FUN grinding again and it should take awhile with how much xp it's going to take. Like you said in your post that the rainbow star grind will not be fun counting that even if you grind it it wont meet the required amount if you want all the cosmetics. I just dont want to wait months or even a year for the cosmetics to show up again like in gw2. But to end on a good note the rux shop is the only negative out of this update to me, everything else is cool and exciting and I cant wait to play.

Good points from all. However I have a slight challenge for discussion!
I'm assuming you can earn rux items through gameplay and that items will rotate and not be gone forever.
One big complaint i see in this forum is that people have unlocked everything and now have nothing to aim for. So if takes 1 year to unlock all of rux items through gameplay alone is that really a bad thing? Or does it add longetivity to the game? What would be the ideal timeframe to clear the shop that isn't too short or too long?
Personally as long I have more to earn from rux it will keep me playing.

@34975634954957 😂 I think you've made good points, to be honest. I haven't maxed all my characters or all of the regions - and that was a deliberate decision on my part not to rush, because the finishing lines seemed very close. I don't have a problem if I can't earn everything Rux sells at once, as long as they DO go back into rotation - that's what I'm really hoping will be clarified next month - at the moment I fear they might not because they want to make money. I hope I'm wrong!

Now we know why this game was so relatively inexpensive. It was their plan all along to micro transaction us to death even though they said it wasn't going to be like that.

It says in this picture "rotation" which would seem to indicate that indeed things will rotate and therefore we will have other chances to buy them.

Still, to me, 1000 seems a lot for one costume if to "buy" the stars for the outfit is $10....
for the same spend you get twice the amount with the 2 upgrade deluxe/feastivus - 2 outfits (plus with them you get the slab and punchers)....
Don't know how many rainbow stars we can get through playing... but I think the devs have said similar to "a small amount" or "some" in relation to ingame earning....
so I don't hold out much hope for a large amounts for weekly challenges etc... but we will see.

But the thing is this is what will probably pay for new maps, characters, modes etc in the future.... and any other new content to come hopefully.
They have to make money somehow to pay the wages... this is life.
It all comes down to how much you want the things I guess....
and at least you get to choose what to buy or not to buy and in buying it will be supporting the game itself. 😃

Dammit I still want that Slide outfit 😃

I hate microtransactions in any non free game, but... At least it isn't pay to win and it isn't loot boxes, people know what they are getting. The way the AAA industry is these days that is probably the least worst way it can be.
However I agree with the overall sentiment of this thread... Us loyal players (many who are not going to participate in microtransactions, sorry) are waiting to see if we get screwed over and can't access the best stuff.
My gut is that the system will be fair (given the free bulbs and sped up earn rate, they seem to listen). However, we are nervous...
