Short command upgrade change

I was put off by upgrades during beta because it just seemed like a lot for me.  I wasn’t use to games with so many option.  Now that I’ve put some time in I’ve grown to like the possibilities.  That being said there are times when I think, “Man if I had this upgrade that battle would of gone a different way”.

This is may be a bad idea because I’ve really only played pvz shooters besides an old doom spinoff yearssss ago.  The ability to short command a different upgrade in game and not between spawns could add some diversity to matches.  However this could be abused I’m sure.  Just a thought.  What do you diverse gamers think about this?

  • I think it takes a looooong time to truly know which upgrade combos work best.

That said, I’m not the type who switches upgrades once I’ve found a favorite combo but see the value this could have for those who prefer many different upgrade kits (Sunflower and Rose are two perfect examples of characters that would benefit from multiple options).

In theory, how would this work?  There would have to be a delay in kit activation to keep ability abuse down.

.... or am I misunderstanding your post? 🤓

@spIash_damage Those are two great candidates that would benefit from a quick swap.  Since the d-pad isn’t full you could use a directional and another button in combination to do a quick swap.  It would remove the current upgrade at the top of the list and swap to you quickset.  With sunflower for example.  You have dual beams on currently but find yourself in a unique solar flare situation at the end point.  You could quickly swap to the upgrade that makes the flare last longer.  The quickest would have to be planned and programmed in giddy park, or before respawn.  But once it’s set, it’s set.

  • Yeah - so long as it was abuse-proof and the cosmetics changed (so you’d know your “variant”), this could be an amazing idea.

  • @dwooten77I don't expect that to work. You always can change the upgrades in between the respawns. Swapping them in the fly during battle makes the whole decision which upgrade to choose obsolete in the first place. Not to mention the point system. That change would be very hard to balance I guess.
Apart from that I like the idea but it would be abused pretty much.

  • I use the character 1,2,3 slots for different upgrade combinations for some characters, so I've got a slightly different set-up quickly available as an option if I respawn. Also put different customisations on them so I don't get confused about which I'm using!!
  • @ippig I think that's about as much as I can manage, though - short commands to the D-pad would confuse the heck out of me! 🤣

@ToastedSarnie It would be really cool of we could name the different slots. It bugs me that I have to look up the current upgrades everytime.

@dwooten77 I thought about it. Do you mean single upgrades? If we could change the three different slots aka three different upgrade setups via D-Pad it could be very cool IF there is a cooldown for doing so. Otherwise it would too much abused like I said before.
