Team imbalance is still a problem.

Not talking about the balance between plant and zombie, that a another problem altogether, but about the amount of player between both team,it a problem that plagued GW1 and is still plaguing GW2 despite attempt to fix it,to simply put:

It still fairly common in a not full game to have team that end up stacked in one way or another, often resulting in a stomp and more then often ruining the game for everyone involved then it happen.

Said problem come because of multiple reason:

  • You're allowed to switch team then they're actually even
  • Joining a friend will put you in his team unless it already heavily stacked (aka +2 player in his team compared to the enemy team)
  • There currently no intensive to switch to a less populated team. It even punished if you do it in the middle of a game
  • Losing/outnumbered team rage quitting (actually answered by no coin reward, but it not clear enough right now)
  • Or just switching team instead if they can. (again answered by half-coin reward if switching, but still happen anyway, similar problem as the first one)

So here I'm talking about it to fix it annoying problem:

There a solution someone posted that came out during around launch of GW2,which I will repost because it pretty much solve most if not all the problem listed if implanted: http://imgur.com/a/wHBpW

(Same post from his very forum, credit to @sonicgarbage for the idea,it also got posted in the reddit sub long agos)

Another additional quicker solution:

  • Said at the same post above, but don't allow people to switch team if there even,it just create instant imbalance
  • Same for joining a friend.
  • Make the no coin reward penalty for quitting mid-game a bit more clear (there no mention of it.)

Here,I just wanted to make his post as a reminder, considering then was no apparent attempt of his problem getting fixed during recent patch. And that nobody talked about it despite the big problem that this is.

I noticed this is still happening in GW1 as well. When you have an odd number of players, say 21, it has to be slightly off, (10-11) in this case, but it should never be something like 9-5 or what have you.

In TF2 on the servers I played on at least, it would auto-balance you to the other side when you were eliminated and the sides were imbalanced. It was annoying to be booted to the other side, especially if you get put on the losing side after being a big part of your old team's effort to be winning but better than stomping all over the other team or being stomped by them.

I notice at the start of a * takeover map the teams are unevenly balanced but by the second cap point they seem to even out with full teams on both sides.

My issue is on the zombie side it seems that imps are becoming more and more popular especially on defense at the end of a game to dog pile and defend a point.  I see less sticking of same type of character on plant side.  I have been seeing more sunflowers and corns though but I think this is a good thing.  Rose is almost nonexistent.

Also maps on turf takeover are horrible in favor of defenders with the exception of moonbase Z which is still fun to play and attackers have a chance of winning

  • Just last night I was surprised we rolled over a zombie team with no problems. Until I realized at the end we had an 8-3 advantage. I wonder if they could substitute some of their bots to even up the number when this happens. I mean it's better than nothing.

    here is an example

    http://imgur.com/cr4mLNj

notice the plants team are all high ranks

and the zombie team are all sub 100 rank like people playing the game for the first time

that means they have no chance all their variants dont have a single upgrade either

and they are facing experienced players with mastered variants

this does not happen by chance either

people just switch sides to the stronger side

and after rounds end and a new round starts the team stay the same so its nearly always one sided

first thing popcap should do is balance the game already plants are stronger with every single class

citrons , rose , corn , peashooters all insanely powerful

zombie side classes pale in comparison

I couldn't disagree with this more.  I think the balance is as good as its ever been and so say every plant class is better is a big stretch.  I'm guessing you primarily play zombies and are sub 500 in level.

  • Imbalance is a problem that has plagued pvz since number 1.
I think they idea of incentive is a good one but there is possibility of players trying to use it for exploits like continuously swapping teams for coins, xp or stars.

I like the idea of being able to substitute in AI bots until the team balances some helps better than no help, might help make fuller sessions as well using AI bots.
Another suggestion I would have is maybe a spawntrap for a few players from the team with the greater numbers until a more fair balance occurs.

  • In GW1 there was no working match making system and now in GW2 Pop Cap failed again in implementing a good match making system. This game can be fun (after a nerf for the beam range of Brainz and Citron) but it is no fun at all with 4-3 or even worser in Turf Takeover.

I am afraid that we have to deal with it, it doen't seem that Pop Cap really cares about balanced teams otherwise they should have fixed this allready at the launch of GW2.

  • @ OP

I'm not quite sure that's 100% true for GW1. Although the lobby often shows an imbalanced team (due to people leaving) after each round, I'm pretty sure you find that when the game restarts it auto balances the remaining players into equal teams.

UPDATE: I've just tried this and you're completely wrong with this one (GW1)

The lobby was showing 9 v 5 (in favour of plants) when the countdown reached zero & the game restarted. I checked the teams after the new map had loaded and it was showing 8 v 7 so obviously someone else joined..

Another thing. When joining a friend in GW1 you are NEVER GUARANTEED to end up on the same team as him. On any, many occasions I have played against friends in the same game.
