@Gormey and @ToastedSarnie yep, I agree... I didn't use that corn upgrade for more than a couple of days.... and my partner has also dropped the upgrade and gone back to the original corn. Sad state of affairs for the plants ☹️
Just had a few rounds of TV. Steam blaster scientists dominating the Vanquish master slots again. And with at least 5 clear kills over everyone else.
Looks like we have gone backwards here.
It is a support character. A lot of thought went into Rose and how the upgrade rewards support play. What happened with Scientist?? This needs a hotfix nerf imo.

I was going to ask people how this upgrade is working out is as I haven't unlocked it yet. I saw 2 of them in a match a bit over a week ago but I mostly pegged them at long range as I didn't want to be anywhere near them after watching a couple of videos on it and it certainly looked extremely nasty.
It looks like it needs a nerf pretty badly. Scientist has so much mobility and this weapon basically makes him a hybrid of the Chemist and Alien Flower all at once which is very nasty. Even with short range and a limited fire rate (and apparently one can abuse his fire rate, at least on console, as I saw a YouTuber do so), a lingering damage cloud on a character that can warp and self-heal is too much good in one package.
On a side note, I do use the corn upgrade one of my 3 corn builds as it actually works pretty well overall (although it could use a small buff of some kind), the Rose legendary has been decent, although seems better in Ops than PvP as you can get charged from a LOT of goats, but this Scientist upgrade is just too good. At the very least, fix the rapid fire glitch and reduce the damage it does, if not addressing the other issues (such as the 3 instant teleports).
I think the Steam Blaster's idea itself is not so bad.
It seems interesting to put lingering damage areas here and there.
But current version is so deadly because of its TTK.
So decreasing rate of fire will make it more balanced and more interesting.
And the first shot is easy to hit but the second is hard to wait near his enemy will make scientist more supportive character.
- Positronic-Rift6 years agoSeasoned Hotshot@CharlesHlcBendel I agree that Steam Blaster's TTK is too low, but its ROF is slow. I believe that the DPS of the steam needs to be decreased (i.e spread out its overall high damage over a longer period of time).
Like @Iron_Guard8 said, Scientist's tool kit (Warp & Sticky Healy Thingy) will also need to be looked at and adjusted as well. By my opinion, anyway, if the frequency of steam damage and the amount of damage the steam deals gets reduced, I think it would be a lot more balanced and you would have to use the Steam Blaster upgrade more strategically as a result, rather than the upgrade itself being straight-up OP. The steam's damage and frequency is so insane right now, which is why Steam Blaster is so powerful and can obliterate tons of plants in one game! 🙂
As a acorn rider on an oak. The scientist instant kills the rider with the steam upgrade
@The-evil-jok3r I didn’t know that, but if it is true, it means that if an Oak with Acorn Passengers come in contact with a Steam Blaster Scientist, that Scientist can easily destroy the Acorns and then the Oak, meaning that the Steam Blaster player can easily get more vanquishes.
Everything that I have heard about Steam Blaster so far has screamed in my face: OP!
I prefer melee and close-range attacks and abilities over ranged. That’s why I really looked forward to getting Steam Blaster when I heard about it. I still don’t have it but I am close. That’s why it’s a shame that it seems way too overpowered. A plant coming into close combat with a Steam Blaster is unlikely to survive, from what I have seen. I don’t particularly think that I should use this upgrade very much until it gets nerfed (hence why it is a shame).
Overall, I hope that this upgrade gets nerfed and soon!
Had a few more sessions since the last post to see it calms down. But no, teleporting self healing steam blasting scientists are ruining any fun in the game for me.
You can barely see the steam too.
I'm ducking out of this game until it is nerfed as I play games for fun not frustration. I have unlocked the steam blaster now but like other posters I am not going to use it as it will be unfair on other players.
