The Great Zucchini is No Longer Viable

The Great Zucchini now has three hard counters:

If you saved your brains for tricks turn and have Going Viral, you can get an easy pump up of all your zombies if you had all the lanes filled up.

If you use just 2 Intergalactic Warlords throughout your match, even if Great Zucchini transforms your zombies into 1/1 zombies, they all start at 3/3 which is the number that cannot be destroyed by any direct destruction card as of this season.

I've had a game where zombies used Bad Moon Rising, Great Zucchini transformed them all into 1/1 zombies, and another Bad Moon Rising was played. Because tricks are always last before combat phase, zombies will always have an upper hand on the trade.

What I've learned from this new season? Because of the wide-spread popularity of Bad Moon Rising, Water Balloons are no longer viable either. They could be used to create a space saver where a zombie has 0 attack power all game, but Bad Moon Rising makes it so destruction cards are a much more necessity than damage reducing cards.

Excellent observations. I often use The Great Zucchini, and the truth is that Intergalactic Warlord is a real headache.

Personally I'm not a fan of Zucchini in terms of card design. I see it as one of those cards that removes more strategy from the game than it provides. I hope there aren't too many more like it.

I still like The Great Zuchini.

It saved me the other day from a wall of Frenzy zombies.

As for Bad Moon Rising, it should be called "Blood Pressure Rising".

I absolutely hate that card. It should not be in the game.

Hey, you can't face Bad Moon Rising if you always play as a Zombie Heroe.

(Insert the thinking man meme here)

The Great Zucchini is an awesome card, and I don't think that it is completely useless.

The fact here is that you NEED to clear the board to avoid all this things that you said.

The smarty class has many Splash Damage cards that can help you clear the board.

If you don't have them or you don't want to play them, you can use other AoE removal from the other classes.

(Tactical Cuke, Wall-Nut Bowling, Cherry Bomb, etc).

I believe that TGZ is mostly to clear one or two zombies that can cause you much trouble.

(Like Zombot Plank Walker or Octo Zombie, for example).

I realize how powerful bad moon rising is and I don't use it for same reason why I don't use clique peas. But you guys that keep saying that zombies get final trick phase, don't forget about Brainana. Always good for getting a smattering of profanity outta me that card....

But it's oh so epic when you play a cornucopia and it gives you a brainana in the aquatic lane. , Knowing they were going to play some crazy bs with their 9 remaining brains.

    Lol so so true too
Although I never had luck with cornucopia and got rid of the two I had way long ago, and never got another surprisingly.
I would always get pear cub or lots of times I got hibernate berry. That's not cool at all for a card that many times is a do or die situation and I got craptastic plants and then when you are in control, then you have overkill. Opposite of what I want in my decks. Maybe just a bad luck spell...

Well I think the card is quite valuable I draw them sometimes from my captain cuecumber. I think the chance to counter it is quite low for blood moon as you need 7 brain and you should know that if he has 7+ open. If your opponent has already played tons of warlords, which is quite rare as well, you know that you are screwed beforehand. Third option is indeed hard to deal with if he spams the virus. But again he must be lucky to draw lots of them.

Btw.  I have 4 very strong zombie decks and I don't know maybe 5 or 6 plant decks which are maybe equally strong but I have one plant deck which is super OP I think I have something around 90% winrate.

I am quite sure that plants are a bit stronger than zombies and much easier to play. You get mistakes often forgiven wheras zombie player are often done by 1 mistake. Ah and if you play on both sides you realize that there are far more plant 50s wheras you have to wait ridiculously long finding a high zombie player.

If somebody wants to play against me I am open for some challenging decks 😄

    My name is Trolloxor

  • I disagree.  I face Great Zucchini in at least 30% of my games, and every single time it's played, the plant player ends up winning in one or two more turns.  (And in most of the games, I was only a turn or two away from winning myself before GZ was appeared.)

I know what you mean as far as pretty much just bouncing almost all set for the trick phase, and then out of left field comes this greasy zucchini and throws a monkey wrench into your plan...
What's better is next turn after he destroyed all the 1/1 zombies and you put your stud zombie out and say to yourself "it's still okay, I hit first...and then the stud gets turned into a goat...
I take that as luck is not with me tonight so thats a wrap.
