The Rux and Rainbow Star Problem

Rux in GW2 was a breath of fresh air for the community; he gave exclusive items paired with rare or hard to obtain items from the numerous Sticker Packs and Infinity Time Chests, all for the price of coins. The way you earned customizations from Rux was purely from playing the game however you wanted to.

Rux in this game feels like a chore. After you burn through coins and the Reward-O-Tron, you have absolutely nothing to do with coins; and yet, you are constantly bombarded with more and more coins. Rainbow Stars are the only worthwhile currency to have anymore aside from Prize Bulbs, and the gain rate on Rainbow Stars is currently limited to 60 a week + 250 or so a month from the Prize Map. This is unreasonable.

With the arrival of Battle Arena Ranked, the difference between coins and rainbow stars to the dev team becomes shockingly apparent; only the highest 5 ranks grant any amount of Rainbow Stars, and the rest granting 300k-500k coins. You’d think that with that MASSIVE number of coins, the playerbase would have something to do with them, correct? But no, there’s no conversion system, there’s nothing past the Reward-O-Tron, and you aren’t rewarded for playing the game the way you want to.

Rainbow Stars may be the “premium currency”, however the coins as the “non-premium currency” are quickly burned through and discarded while the “premium” store of Rux is constantly being updated and added to every single month with no change in Rainbow Star gain rate or compensation.

If there was some sort of conversion rate, or a coin-only section of Rux’s store to browse, then this would be reasonable to an extent. However, the ONLY use for coins beyond Reward-O-Tron is currently purchasing Wizard in April if you missed him on the Prize Map.

This amount of greed is not subtle or reasonable in any sort of way because it leaves nothing for the casual player OR the dedicated player. Casual players have no real reason to keep coming back because once coins are done they have to wait for Rainbow Stars to be available again; dedicated players are punished because they have to wait for the new content to come out while being taunted by Rux if they aren’t willing to pay money for Rainbow Stars.

Please. For the sake of this community and for the sake of this game’s future, do something about this problem, PopCap.

  • @SockReverie The worst thing in bfn is that you cant even really play the way you want its either online or screw off for some of the prize bulb quests, also in gw2 getting regular stars was beneficial because you could convert them to rainbow stars at the seagull and the coins you would earn completitng those quests alongside multiplayer quests that gave coins (thank you custom gnome bomb matches) so you could increase your income to quickly get rux items.
