Toxic upgrade is useless
I think the most useless upgrade in Garden Warfare 2 is toxic upgrade.
Every toxic character will get this upgrade in Elite 5 [Expect Toxic Chomper].
This upgrade will increase range of toxic eff...

Toxic range is worth it. Lemme give you a small example :o
As Toxic Brainz I have on more than one occasion just simply walked by a pillar, building, fence, and even a random car, gotten vanquishes on players who just escaped someone else and tried regenerating their health. I won't even know they're there and the aura will defeat them. You hear the funny "Doing damage" noise a couple of times then suddenly that satisfying ding!
As Toxic Brainz I'm also prone to getting ambushed... while not entirely helpful in every situation, seeing one of those green numbers pop up on my screen will actually alert me to someone who is hunting me and trying to sneak up to get those high damage close range headshots. Most so if they're hiding behind the wall I'm running on the opposite side of!
... Of course, as Toxic Brainz, I'm usually flying around at the speed of sound to kamikaze on a group of plants with Turbo Twisters haha :P That toxic spread works during that too. Not so much for vanquishes though.
I feel as though the aura should apply the 6 total damage instead of wearing off when you get out of range.
Opinions among high level players seem to differ on this topic. It varies by character. I think the upgrades for Toxic Citron are particularly useful as they affect his primary weapon damage quite a bit.
Toxic upgrade just make the aura damage take 1 more damage. It doesn't seem to increase range. I don't like it so I don't use it. It makes it easier to pick other upgrades on those characters with it.
