Ultimate Thinking - Battle Analysis (Immorticia vs Capt. Combustible)
Greetings my good fellas. Today I want to share a small analysis in a game between high league players, hoping this can help you out in climbing the Ranked Mode.
On this game I'm playing a full Science Deck with Immorticia. (The deck list will be at the end)
The idea is simple. I included a bunch of Science cards and looked for synergy between them, like with Zombot Drone Engineer and Gadget Scientist.
That's me btw. You can add me if you like.
1.- I see on my opening hand three 2 cost cards. I know Capt. Combustible usually runs aggro decks, so I need to find my early opening cards.
2.- I decided to keep the Zombot Drone Engineer since it synergises pretty well with all my deck and Cyborg Zombie to chase down some plants and help me survive.
3.- No cards avaliable to play, so end turn.
4.- High-Voltage Currant is not a threat at the beggining, so I'm letting it live. (For now)
5.- I think about playing the Cyborg Zombie, but I don't know what Superpower the Capt. has. So I play the Drone Engineer instead. I can play the Electrician next turn to further increase the damage of my zombies, so that is good.
6.- Lily of the Valley. Ok, this is gonna be though.
7.- I NEED to destroy that Lily, but at the same time I can't ignore the top lane. It is turn 3, so the Capt. can play something like Captain Cucumber on the top lane. I decide to play my recently drawn Biodome Botanist and place the 1/1 plant on that lane. It is going to be a 3/3, but it could be worse. Like, WAY worse.
8.- Here, the Capt. makes a "Questionable Play". He plays a SECOND Lily when the top lane is already occupied, and not only that, but he places it in a way that would leave it with just 1 health. I haven't revealed my Superpower yet, so I can totally have the Acid Rain and kill that Lily easily.
9.- My Block Meter is almost full. I know I have 66% chance to block the incoming attack, negating the damage. So I create another 1/1 with my Biodome Botanist to stop the Capt. to play any new plant. I still have my tricks as a counter-measure in case he buffs a plant in play. I use the Eclipse Environment to kill that 5/1 Lily easily.
10.- As expected, I negated the damage from the 3/3. I have my Acid Rain now, but I don't want to play it yet. The plants on the board are too weak.
11.- Now that I cleared the board from all the Lily's, I need to start attacking that 3/3. I have 2 options, Cyborg Zombie or Electrician. Since the 3/3 nut is not a big threat on its own, I decide to play the Electrician in order to help my Botanists fight a possible upcoming threat.
12.- Never lucky Elderberry from the High-Voltage Currant. Now I also have two options. Use the bonus attack to kill the 1/1 and make my Botanist Survive, or attack the 3/3 nut. Since I still have the Acid Rain Superpower and I REALLY want to reduce the attack of that Elderberry, I use the bonus attack on the Electrician itself.
13.- At his point I just play everything I have avaliable. Luckyly, I can draw another Total Eclipse Environment and kill the Elderberry.
14.- Again, my Block Meter is almost full. I can prevent the Elderberry strikethrough damage, but I NEED to place a zombie on the height lane. The Capt. Block Meter is also almost full, so, if I play a normal zombie and he DOESN'T play anything there, is very likely that he can prock his Meter and get a Superpower.
He can get... Embiggen (+2/+2) or the Time to Shine (bonus attack) that he is OBVIOUSLY going to use on the Elderberry. Worst case scenario, he gets the Meteor and squishes the Space Cadet that I'm going to place infront of him. So, I play the Bullseye Cosmic Scientist.
15.- RIP my Botanists. Good thing I didn't placed the Scientist directly infront of the Elderberry or it would be a goner too.
16.- I place the Space Cadet infront of the Elderberry as planned. Time to kill that thing once and for all.
17.- I don't know what to expect from the Capt and my hand is pretty weak right now. I would usually play the Cyborg Zombie and buff it with Maniacal Laugh to make it a 8/7 Chase Zombie with frenzy. That will not only block one plant for me, but is highly likely that I kill that plant and attack again. The combo, however, is 8 brains and I only have 7, so I pass turn. I can use the Summoning trick and buff that zombie with the Maniacal Laugh.
18.- Here the Capt. does another "Questionable Play". He places the Bananasaurus Rex INFRONT of the Scientist. Why would he do that? The small 1 attack zombie is no threat for him. Plus, I saved 7 brains. As a Beastly class zombie. As you are going to see on the deck list at the end, I'm running Alien Ooze. Playing your most powerful plant on the top lane is just a bad idea, no matter how you see it. PLUS PLUS, at that moment he still didn't knew what Superpower I got from the last block. I could have gotten the Evaporate trick on the Bananasaurus next turn since it is going to be damaged. Playing the Bananasaurus on the next lane could have won him the game. In the end, I used the Maniacal Laugh on the Cosmic Scientist and played the Summoning trick infront of the Banana Launcher and hoped to get a 2 attack zombie.
19.- Here is a (kinda) "Questionable Play" from myself. I could have just used the 2 Hover-Goats on the 6/4 Scientist, making it a 10/8. I can't think of any card capable of killing such an immense zombie. I didn't realized that until some time after the match. Instead, I played safe and spread those buffs in other zombies rather than just jamming all the power into 1 zombie. Also, I have Check on just the Scientist alone.
20.- I played both my Hover-Goats, but in a specific order. The one conjured by the Cosmic Scientist first and on the Water Lane, since it has amphibious and I know that neither Mega-Grow or Kaboom classes have amphibious cards. The second Goat buffs the one already in position. Also with this strategy, I have a 2 turn lethal in case my Scientist is killed.
21.- Let's play ALL the legendaries!!
22.- With a nice Gadget Scientist topdeck, I can kill the Capt. right now. However, I see that I can BM with the Hover-Goat I have in hand. (BM means "Bad Manner" and is basically show off to your opponent. Is something like... Your opponent has 1 health and you have 3 Berry Blasts in hand. You waste 2 of them until you use the last one directly on his face. This is like a way of saying... "HA! I could have killed you even if you had 9 HP!!") However, I quickly realize that this is a pretty bad idea. Either the Gadget Scientist or the Hover-Goat is going to hit the Capt. face, and he is HIGHLY likely to block that attack, since they are not bullseye. If he got the Meteor, for example, he could have made my Hover-Goat on the water lane to bounce, thus making me lose lethal.
23.- Instead of me fooling around, I just play the Gadget Scientist and make the Hover-Goat do the final Bonus Attack. Checkmate, mate.
24.- A well earned victory.
25.- This is the deck list of my full Science deck. Feel free to try it out if you like.
Finally, what do you think?
