We need a new PvZ shooter
It's been too quiet for too long. BfN lost new content support over a year ago now, and the playerbase is mostly focused on GW2 from what I can see from playing online, the video content on YouTube, and the Reddit. I'm not going to get into the good/bad of any of the games here, but it's obvious the community is as hungry for a new game as a Chomper is for zombie feet.
Things don't look great for a PvZ shooter to come out any time soon when one considers the state of PopCap Vancouver and how quickly BfN got cut off. That being said, even with how upset some of the veterans were, there's big demand for a new game.
With none of the 3 shooters getting any new content, even though we can still play all 3 games thankfully, people are slowly but surely moving on as they feel 'done' with games like this, and a new game needs to come before too many have drifted away.
After BfN's bad launch, the next game is going to have to come to us in a much better state than GW2 or BfN did at launch (I can't say on GW as I got it a bit after launch and on PC which was not its initial launch platform). I haven't seen a modern game launch in a perfect state ever, but to get veterans to come back, and entice new folks, it must be in good shape from day one.
Also, hype it up and advertise it more. BfN felt like an afterthought with how little it was promoted. Right now things are so quiet and the community is mostly discussing the current games and in a kind of depressed state as even us older fans really enjoy PvZ and love shooters so this is why we're still here, but with no game announced, leaked, or suggested, it really does look dark for the future of the series, and I'd hate to see that.
So, while a lot of folks have given up, and many of us are not all that hopeful right now, a new game that is done right can definitely do well, and many of us are ready for it. I know I've said this kind of thing before, but it's just as true now as when we heard BfN was getting cut down before we could get the new Everlasting Crown or a plant character to balance out the wizard. A new game (that is in good shape) can't come soon enough.
