For 2 days now when trying to claim energy or coins from the trash can I'm getting a message "Unfortunately your progress could not be saved. Do you want to try saving it again?" and when I click save I loose almost all of my previously stored energy. Please look into this.

I am also having this issue along with many others. This was a problem that happened pretty frequently when the game started; I assume it has returned because of updates made to the game in one way or another. One way to get around this annoying bug is to just click and scroll to retrieve your other freebies and ignore the trash can for the time being. Hopefully, they will update all of us via the forums when the problem is resolved; until then, I would ignore the trash can.
This problem ticked me off, at first. But then I accidentally discovered something. When you run out of energy, go to the bottom of the game screen and click the green button with the arrow on it. It will take you outside of the 'room' back to the main page. Go to the bottom left hand corner and click on the map. It will take you back to the first room. The entryway. Click on the 'trashcan' and it gives you the choice of money or energy. Click on energy. Then when the applet pops up to try again. This happens 3 times before the applet changes to restart or quit, click restart. Wait. When you are restarted, you now have 135 energy points! I hope they don't fix it too soon, as I have been racking it up with this. Plus, you can still go back and do all the other rooms gifts. Win/win.
It's been doing this since at least yesterday so when I am ready to leave the game, I see if it's fixed yet. As of just now, Sunday evening, it's not. Guess we just wait since there is o customer service with POGO.
