Repeatedly Shorted on Scrabble Timer/Time Runs Out Too Fast

When playing Scrabble, I keep getting msg that "time has expired", or that "opponent has extended my time", and it's only been 5 seconds, or 15 seconds, or just returned from intermission.   Although...

since scrabble got changed my timer constantly expires after 10 seconds and doesnt let me play. i have to constantly pass my turn to get the game to continue.
