Forum Discussion
I have yet to have Services 2.0 applied to my city, but have read countless threads, here and elsewhere, about the disruption it has caused. I've also not seen any explanation or solutions for the issues people are raising.
At the heart of it seems to be a few fundamental points:
- People have no idea why their cities are failing. Capacity can exceed demand for a given service yet still it shows up as red. There is no guidance, info, or derivable logic that explains why this is
- Either this is because players are doing something wrong - without knowing what "wrong" is anymore - or because there are bugs in the game
- If it is due to bugs - can this please be communicated so that people can understand this and await a resolution?
- If it is due to how people have built their cities - can we get a clear explanation of what the new 'rules' are and what people need to do to solve this?
SCBI has run the same way for many, many years, and over the years players have amassed a collective knowledge of how it all works via forums, wikis etc. But a lot of that feels like it has changed without being communicated - hence the intense frustration coming out in this thread and elsewhere. We simply don't know what is going on anymore.
It feels like people have been working away on the biggest jigsaw puzzle ever made - and overnight someone has come along and messed it all up, then stolen the picture of what it was they were working on.
Can you explain why people are having trouble when as stated is the services 2.0 announcement
“During the rollout, any negative effects from service coverage—like abandoned buildings or unhappy citizens—will be temporarily paused, so you can explore Services 2.0 without worry.”

Although negative effects are currently paused, they have to be addressed anyway such that the city will work again as soon as the pause of negative effects expires. And the problem is that there is no possible way to upgrade the service buildings in my city such that the demands are covered. I would have to completely redesign the city and to demolish lots of buildings to be able to place new or larger service buildings. The problem is that, essentially, you reduced the capacity of the smaller service buildings (even in their max level) so that they never can cover as many buildings/population as they could before. This renders years of careful city design and layout defunct. EA obviously has no appreciation for the attachment and the years of work players put into their cities.
I could live with a lot of bad decisions and changes by EA to the game, because so far I could keep my beautiful city running in the layout I so carefully crafted. But precisely that has been shredded now in an irreparable way. This just makes me very sad, as I don‘t know how to continue playing and maintaining something with lots of emotional value to me because I spent quite a lot of time and resources on it.
