Education buildings question

Is there more to these buildings other than the boost percentage and coverage area shown when you press on the in the placement list? I'm looking to add these to my city and want to make sure there isn't more to then than the other stuff like parks and transportation.

The University will unlock the Fusion Reactor for power.  The buildings do take up a lot of space when compared to something like transportation or gambling.

after you build the department its completely free except the part where it cost keys XD those are semi hard to get. it just takes a while so try to build enough but definitely not more.

  • So they don't upgrade or anything like that to gain greater coverage area and stuff like that?

Yes you unlock buildings with greater coverage and population boosts as you advance. Word of advice..save your keys even though you havent unlocked the good spec buildings. Example: Dont buy too many schools early on but rather save your keys for universities. Only buy the minimum one spec to unlock the next

Do you mean like a hard hat and you use material to upgrade them? No. Once you built a speciality building, that's it.

Do know that with education, you have to first build a library to unlock the high school. Build the high school to unlock the college, then the college unlocks the university. It's quite the slog to get the top tier building.

Its not a slog to unlock anything, I've been playing for a little over two months and I've unlocked every spec HQ and every building that requires keys. Im just saying that once you build a certain spec building like a library you should never build another..save your keys and only use them to purchase the next spec in order to unlock the next better one.
  • Ok so once I place, for example, a grade school it can't be improved and what I placed at the time of obtaining it is the final state of the building? No mechinism in place to improve the building so that it covers more area or what not. So anyone outside of the range of that grade school is going to complain they can't get to it. But does this negatively impact in any way buildings outside of the coverage of the grade school? I'm not thinking negative like police and fire where your happiness drops like a fly hit with a fly swatter. But I do notice that with medical certain buildings if placed outside of the range of the medical stuff will result in 4% lower happiness and certain types of buildings will be completely abandoned because they are outside medicals coverage area. The grade schools coverage is so small it's like having 2 grade schools in one neigborhood.

No mechanism to improve the school other than saving up keys and buying a second school to go with it, or a larger college or university.  And you're right, the cheaper education buildings are pretty weak, but that's what CJ was talking about.  Work on getting the bigger buildings.

And no, if you don't have complete coverage, it doesn't negatively impact taxes, happiness, or population.  No one will move out.  The specialty buildings are all gravy.

  • I see so it isn't even necessary to have one of each except to gain the unlock? So I could have a city with just the top dog and the sims would careless that there is no lower levels of education. That is too funny. I was somehow expecting a little more realizm in the game and schools would work more like schools in reality in that you needed to have some of each. In my city (real life ) there are like 6 grade schools, 3 middle schools, and 3 high schools; 3 libraries and 1 college.

That's a keen observation.  The same applies to Transportation too.  According my city, the only public transporation is by balloon or helicopter.  A city full of ballerz.  Which may be appropriate, seeing as every single Peaceful Park I have has a heli pad in it.
