I'm playing in the UK and I've just discovered that the cost of one of the disaster upgrade deals is the same in USD and GBP. How is this right? £40 is the equivalent of $54! I feel like I'm being ...

Some of it is related to how and where sales tax / VAT is applied. And some is price points - they wouldn't offer something in UK for 38.54 based on exact exchange rates, it'll round up to 39.99.
Good point, I hadn't considered VAT and the lack of a national equivalent in the US. Still, if I've worked this out correctly, £35.52 to £40 is some very crude rounding.
