Kick Out Steve! EA

seriously EA, if I wanted to kill monsters, I'd install The Witcher. In SimCity, I want to develop the city. You can even move it to the war board. I do not participate in them.

I know The Witcher is now on TOP, but Steve is already overkill. I hope this is a temporary promotion. I turned off automatic game updates. If I can't play without this monster then I will uninstall SimCity BuildIt.

  • @scx2km Wow this Steve change is so *. I spend hours a day playing this game but I’m about to delete it. I can’t play war when Steve is in my city. I have to wait a day for him to leave or I have to use 20-30 war parts to kill him. What a joke. Big **** up EA

On my version Steve doesn't affect the war.  He's just an extra thing you can do if you want to.  He's seems a bit handy as he keeps war deliveries open until you kill him/ time is over.

  • I like that it’s a means to complete war CoM tasks outside of a war.  However, by adding the task “Launch Disasters at Monster” very frequently I have the same problem: impossible tasks.  Obviously the first launch disasters is ok, but every time it’s offered the next day, or the day after that, it’s a task I must delete.  The 3 day return time with no ability to recall it is lame.  Also, during this CoM week alone I got 2x launch 5 attacks, 2x launch 4, and 1x launch 3.  That’s 21 attacks against a monster that only has 20 hit points on which I’m also intended to use attacks other than slap.  Terrible implementation on this.

I agree, this is a case of poor planning and implementation. The idea that we can achieve war tasks without being in a club and doing club wars is a good idea for those dead set against that part of the game. You’ve hit the nail on the head with how they went wrong with the cephalopod.

This could easily be fixed if they 1) decreased the time between its appearances or enabled us to speed it up using sim cash like we can with cargo ships, airport and export deliveries and 2) either remove the monster-specific tasks from CoM (leaving the existing war tasks that we could use attacking the cephalopods), or drastically increase their worth (minimum 3k).

I’ll probably try to work this new feature into my CoM play since I was missing out on war tasks due to only having one war per week in our club. I’ll probably skip the 1k “attack monster” task unless they are gateway to higher point tasks. The very limited time frame is the real issue, though. Not to mention, when the next cephalopod comes, it requires more hits and in MUCH LESS time than the first one.

Don’t throw the cephalopods out with the sea water; just fix these game design elements that don’t make any sense and don’t prompt players to want to spend time and war resources to complete.

I just don't want to see a monster roam off the coast of my city. Just as I can ignore the wars completely and not enter the war board, as I don't have to click on the airport and make deliveries, I don't want to see the monster. SimCity is about creating cities, not fighting monsters.

Unfortunately, EA can't do an update that won't fail something. In Frost Fjords, boosts are not snow covered. It frustrates me even more.

Yep, 10 simcash to get Steve back would definitely help. "Don’t throw the cephalopods out with the sea water" made me laugh 🙂

It is a shame that the same war items are used for Steve and for war.  I won't touch Steve, I need those war items to help my club win wars...

  • @mlapomme I sincerely hope that the mods here are forwarding observations like yours and others in this thread on to the game devs. You are certainly not alone in ignoring Steve & Company.

There are many, MANY players in the various FB groups who also are refusing to give this new game feature the time of day, and I can’t blame them. I just hope EA and TrackTwenty do make some good, positive tweaks (sooner rather than later) to the monster slapping. I like the idea but implementation is just too terrible to get many people to commit the time and resources do this.

Note: I’m sure this was done to drive card purchases, though. After my first foray with the 60-hit, 4-hour monster, I got a pop up for a “Monster Card Offer III,” which consisted of x25 Common/x20 Rare/x5 Legendary Cards, 20 gold keys, and 2500 war sims for 6.99USD. It does work out better than what’s offered in the 4.99 small war pack, but EA tipped its hand in doing this right after introducing the feature; you have to have attacks leveled to a certain number in order to be able to reach 15k pts to best that 4hr monster in time AND get the gold chest.

I’m sure they designed the monster feature to specifically drive card sales like this, so my fear is that they won’t want to tweak the parameters to make it more desirable to play if that will potentially cut into their new card pack sales. (I hope I’m wrong.) Newer players *might* buy this pack, but I feel the more tenured folks won’t.
