I'm currently playing the sim city built it game on iPad and at first I though it was fun, interesting and fascinating. But until I reached a sudden level like 19-20. Many things will pop out and it requires a quite big amount of coins/ money to buy it. And also the taxes, we only collect like 10k for every 24 hours?! That's too long! We earn 1000 from upgrading buildings, 3000-4000 from trade centre and 500-600 from dock ship. Add together is about 6000 coins per day or per week and we also have to spend money on power and water supplies and also clinics, police, and fire stations and it cost you 10k to buy a police station! How it's that affordable? We need to earn money more quicker so we can develop our city faster! And it cost me 40k to buy a department of education and another 40k for department of transportation and another 60k for department of Entertainment. All together is 14000k! And we only earn 6000-8000 per week! Ok, let's say if we save the money and just wait to collect taxes, are you expecting us to just seat there and wait for few hours to collect just like 500 coins? I have more than 5000000 people on my city right now and I'm still upgrading my buildings and upgrading my lands and trading AND I STILL CANT EARN UNTIL 40K! I HAVE WAITED FOR 2 WEEKS UPGRADING AND TRADING AND I STILL CANT GET TO 40K BECAUSE OF YOUR SLOW EARNING GAME AND I PLAY MANY SIM CITY GAMES ON COMPUTER AND THIS IS THE WORST, SLOWEST AND MOST DISAPPOINTING EA GAME IVE EVER PLAYED.

Im level 27 with only 270 000 residents and I can easily make 40-60k simoleons per day thru taxes/trading/upgrades/in city coin offers. It sounds like you might be expanding your city too fast. Only build a few houses at once...4 or 5 at most. And upgrade them to skyscrapers before moving on. This increases land value dramatically so when it is time to add new construction its done in a high value neighborhood. And of course good service coverage from ALL services including education and transportation are essential to high tax revenue.Also make sure to buy the specialty shops as soon as you unlock them and start producing high end items for sale. I get half my revenue that way. The default prices are usually way under valued on these items however but theres a few that are excellent money makers, it just takes some experimenting.Hope this helps 🙂

HI, I'm currently @ level 17 with 120k residents. And the daily taxes are over 10k. And I easily can make 30-40k in a day just by trading. In the first run of this game I just simp[ly ruined my city with expanding, which cost extremely much. So I had to start from the beginning with a different strategy. This game is actually a test for human patience. So take it that way, this game is excellent to learn how to manage your cash flow, even in real life.The point is. Build less residential buildings, a lot of factories and some commercial buildings to produce some goodies that you can sell. Go make some calculations about what materials are the best to produce in less time with a highest possible ROI (return on investment). In materials, actually, you are investing time. in some cases a lot of time.so there is a relative ROI. Make some calculations how much hours can you spend daily in the game and adjust the materials for that. when you are in-game do materials that are produced fast but can earn as much as possible selling them at the Trade Depot. Between this materials always produce wood and metal for chairs hammer, nails etc. and if you want some seeds for the vegetables. This will make you more extra coins. While you are in the game tap on the citizen offers. And why not search for goodies at the Trade HQ at the lowest possible price and sell them at the maximum price with free advertising which is available every 60 seconds. PLus you'll get a lot of free stuff while tapping on visiting other cities bubbles. Those things can be sold too. Cargo shipments, and a lot of things.Before you exit the game, manage to fill your factory with materials that are taking to long. so While you are off the game at sleep/school/work/etc you'll make a ton of materials that worth more coins.Use your simcash for upgrading commercial building slots. more you gave more you can put to produce while you are not in the game. After you are in the game again you can have a lot of products to sell at a very high price. and easily can make 10-20k just from one shot after a sleep or a work day. So you can make easily 40-60k in a day. or even more.The main idea is to not expand fast. There is no competition for the best mayor in the world. So why the rush? Be aware of the instant gratification syndrome. It will force you to think that if you make it faster you'll be rewarded. There is no reward for fast movement. But there is a great educational reward in management. This game is all about of developing the best strategy to manage your city in a way that your citizens are always 100% happy and live a luxurious life. So they can pay you more taxes. Keep the residential zone numbers as low as you can, so all the buildings are upgraded to the highest skyscraper possible. Oh, one another thing. Upgrade all the road to the best available road you have. This will allow you better and more luxurious buildings.Don't Rush. And you can make a huge amount of coins. And unlock as much education as possible. Beach, transportation. I managed in a way to keep my sims at the highest possible luxurious level without transportation. This feature will be bout tonight. But my sims didn't ask for it. cuz they are at luxurious level, so they have their own cars I guess. I recently unlocked the airport.So it is possible with low sims to earn pretty much. It depends on the strategy you develop. The fun part is that you can play this game mouths. Be smart, use a little math and everything will be much easier and funnier. And the most important, don't rush.

well no one wants donuts, no matter how low I set the price 🙂 But I get Homer and Wiggum is in another game.Most money still come from selling things. When I need money I stop expanding and sell everything. 40k with 50000 people is matter of day or two. Not that hard. And if market actually worked it would be much more. You are not supposed to build new houses. You need to control your level and build houses only after you have covered all services for them.Taxes are worthless. They won't rise with population increase. 50k -> 150k means like another 2k from taxes.So.. education/transportation do really nothing in this area. It just raise land value to the point where better buildings are built (but same people in those houses and as said tax increase from 50% bonus is neglectable).

It appears taxes are calculated on the base population, before any population bonuses are applied from things like parks, entertainment etc., so the only way to get more taxes is to build more houses. But as said above, taxes are negligible. It's an odd system, but donuts sell for 950 and a table is only 500!

I'm afraid you're mistaken @rules. Services like education, transportation, entertainment etc.. do indeed have a huge impact on tax revenue and tax rates are NOT calculated by base population before services.

Try a simple experiment..move a school away from your population and firstly you'll see an immediate drop in city population. Secondly check your city hall and you'll see that your tax revenue has dropped. Taxes are NOT useless :-o

Im not saying that high land value is directly the cause of higher tax rates..but its the prime indicator of higher taxes due to increased happiness and service coverage.

ALL service coverage is essential for healthy tax revenue

The only reason I posted was because I did try that experiment already and tax did not change at all (unless I moved something e.g. fire that caused my sims to be unhappy or abandon their houses)

And yes, the taxes are useless. The money you get at lower levels is negligible unless you're going to only log in once a week. By the time you get to higher levels, you don't really need it anyway.

I double checked with all my services and I can confirm that ALL services (education, gambling etc..) have direct influence on city population and tax rates. Tax rates ARE higher in areas of high land value. A combination of well developed residential buildings and good service coverage from all services and parks is what leads to high land value.

I have 100% coverage for most services across my whole city except gambling and landmarks is a bit spotty. But if I was to lose them overnight I would lose over half my tax revenue!

I'm not sure how much of your revenue is from taxes but it couldn't be that much if you claim taxes are useless. At least half my revenue is from taxes and I'd rather collect taxes at high rates from a high paying city than grind away on the global markets for hours every day.

Note: i shouldnt say tax rates but rather tax revenue as the rate is set at 20%

Higher taxes indicates healthier city..taxes couldn't be more important

then you may be happy. Because from my average land value and 90k people I got around 170k high value land just by "not required services" (transportation/education). And having 20% in both cases, tax revenue rised from like 11.6k to 13.3k. That's not what I call "crutial" or "important". It's negligible. Especially when one considers the price of services.
If every sim generated certain amount of money it would be worth investing into expensive buildings.
But so far you actually get most value on low levels. As tasks are simple there and production capacities can easily fulfill them. As you level up you only get more expenses while you are still limited by the very same single hardware shop and your taxes won't rise to make it worth 🙂

Tips,
1. You have to manage the growth of your population, it's mean everytime you grow your population you need facilities. More Facilities means more cost. So, the strategy is to keep your population balance, demolish the building that you're disliked, and rebuild them. You still can earn credits while upgrading without increasing cost.
2. Try not to sell raw item, but products. example, chair, table, vegetable, garden stuff etc. Selling it at low quantity but at highest price. Don't be affraid, people always need them but in certain number.

@Elenoe- Well I suppose it all boils down to which growth model you want to use. I agree you can make a lot more money by expanding residential zones at lower levels with only essential service coverage. But this leads to a suburban style sprawl in which case taxes do indeed become negligible due to low property value and population boosts. I've heard many players say they have to eventually bulldoze residential zones to recover from this because growth stagnates and upgrades no longer become available for houses. This growth model only works for a while before crashing.

The most stable growth model is slow and steady with no expenses spared on services and specializations and only build a few residential zones at a time until they're maxed out skyscrapers. Before building any residential, ensure you have coverage from all essential services and at least one specialization (education etc..)

I've only been playing regularly for about a month now and my city already covers about half the map, virtually all my land value is high dark blue, the wealth forecast is all dark orange luxurious and every residential zone in the city is upgraded to the modern high level skyscrapers (the highfalutin, the One Percent etc..) except for the few zones I'm working on. I'll never have to worry about these areas again as they cant be further improved (apart from adding more specialization). So basically I'm providing as many services/specializations as needed to maximize tax revenue from my city..which in turn leads to a healthier, better looking city...isnt that the point of this game?

So under this model taxes ARE crucial as my tax revenue is higher and accounts for half my income! I cant afford to lose half my income! And like you say it may not be a huge chunk of cash but I'm making 16k per day on taxes without lifting a finger. The other 16-20k i earn on the market IF I have time to play the markets. And it can be a lot of work making that much in the market under present conditions.

So I prefer the slow, steady and stable growth model..relying on a high value, high yield tax base to do the work for me.
