How do I change the spoken language to English? (Simcity)

Hello,

I contacted technical support earlier today since all the language in game was in Chinese, and they gave me a "guaranteed English digital copy" to re-install with.  I un-installed the previous DVD version, and have installed the Digital copy twice.  All of the in game language is still Chinese.  Is there not simply a way for me to select English?   Maybe some way for me to disable the in game voices?   If not, how can I fix this?

I appreciate your help, Thank you.

  • Hi qualk23,

The spoken language in-game is Simlish. For installing the game itself in English (in-game text) you will need to first uninstall the game, choose English as your client language in Origin (Origin > Application Settings > General > Client Language > English US), restart Origin and then finally re-install the game directly via Origin.

    Cheers,

    Nils

The SimCity language is code specific, meaning that only the native languages of the area you bought it in will be available.

The russian, hungarian and polish version is a special discounted edition of SimCity, and is being sold online with an invalid "language pack" which will cause a continuous update loop and never install properly. It will install/run fine without the language pack, but only in the stated languages.

The only way to change the language to english is to contact a Game Advisor and get a new 'english' game code. It has worked for numerous players in other countries who have purchased SimCity at it's regular price. I believe the East EU version is the exception to the rule.

Note that the Origin reinstall will only change the language to english if the game code has that capability.

    Hi djphatic,

I think you want to reverse from what dddibley has described, going EN -> RUS. You may still be able to exchange it at your retailer, if you haven't used the code yet.

If you have already, please contact an EA Game Advisor:

You can contact EA Help via the EA Help website. Detailed instructions on how to use the EA Help service can be found here.

    Cheers,
    Nils

You may be better served posting your own (new) thread. Not sure what you issue is here.

Application Settings is in the Origin client menu: Origin > Application Settings.

  • It is, and was set to English. Still not English.

Plus, no such tab as "general" or "Client Language", just Application->Language.

@DougRoyer - Did you see the accepted solution (here)?

The Sims speak Simlish - a made-up language created for the Sims franchises. As you have found, there is no language setting for the spoken language; if the game is set to English then the game default language (menus, pop-up dialogue, etc) should be in English. If this is not the case in your game, then an uninstall - reinstall of the game should fix that. Just choose the English language version when prompted.

If you are experiencing a problem with the game language, please create your own thread and detail the issue you're having. This thread will be locked in order to prevent further necro.

    Happy building!
