Re: Can't load SimCity

Update. I just tried to launch the game and now get this message on the EA app.

This game requires permissions.

This game requires administrative privileges. Do you want to grant access and launch the game?

OK CLOSE

OK so I hit the OK button and sure enough the game opens up. But when I close the game and restart it I get the same thing as above. This maybe acceptable to some, but to me, having to do this every time is unacceptable. This is a half way fix.

    Heya,

This may be related to a recent update we pushed for SimCity 2013, could you please try the below steps and let me know if it sorts the issue for you?

    1. Restart your PC

    2. Uninstall then reinstall the EA app

This should force the EA app to install more recent configuration changes, and prevent the issue from reoccurring.

  • That would be a no go. Uninstalled the app and added it back in. Still the same game requires administrative privileges.

  • same problem toodgd

Update, I have been able to play but still have the same problem with the administrative permissions problem. I just got off with support and they are still working on the problem. It's seems to have gotten worse as now the sims are not moving into your cities. I noticed this by clicking on one of the buildings. See the screen shot.

I'm about ready to try uninstalling it and re-installing it.

  • I’m having the same issue with admin permissions. Tried everything—running as admin, reinstalling on a different drive, adjusting permissions—but it still won’t launch properly.

Thanks for the info relhaykes. I'll not waste my time then on an uninstall.

  • Any luck on this yet? I already tried everything that I could find in the web to solve this problem but I still get the same error.

  • Not at moment xoanneox.

And I just ran into another problem. Now it's leaving "holes" where buildings are meant to be built. See screen shots.

  • My goodness. I tried to talk to EA support and what they told me is that it's not compatible with Windows 11. But I was able to play the last time 😞

  • Apparently it tried to build the building under ground as it did not get enough Omega and asked to be destroyed. That corrected the problem.

  • Oh this glitch has been around for some time i definitely had that happen to me last year as well! So nothing's new here hah. Honestly I didn't know EA still updates that game that's kinda weird i thought that the last update happened in December 4, 2014...

I installed everything on a different clean windows 10 machine. I installed logged in as an "administrator".  I am able to run the game without issue when logged in as an "administrator".  If I log out of Windows 10 and log in as a "regular user" on the same machine, the error occurs and game does not launch despite answering the question to elevate to "administrator "OK".  Then I went back to my original Windows 10 machine that I've played Sim City 2015 (Sim City 5) for 10 years, logged in as an "administrator", and I was able to successfully launch the game.  But not with the User Login I have been using for 10 years now!!!  I suspect a recent Windows 10 security fix may have borked the game for us.  What privilege is now required that didn't used to be to run this game??  What API call  from the launcher now requires administrator-level privileges?  What privilege can I assign to my "normal user" login to allow this to run now?  I don't wish to log in as an administrator every time I want to play this game, plus all my cities and regions exist under my "normal user" login, and do not exist when I log in as "administrator".  I do not want to change my "normal user" login to be an "administrator".  It is too dangerous to brows the web and such due to drive-by elevation-of-privilege hijacks and the like.

EA completely forgot this game exists, which is a shame. I tried playing today and had the same problem. In the end, I was able to play after repairing, but the experience in general seems strange, I don't know how to correctly define what is happening, but it is certainly not 100%

  • I am on Windows 10 and having the same issue. Not a Windows 11 issue.

@bhowden79  And yet they still sell the game. See screen shot from Amazon. What's going to happen when everyone is on Windows 11, they finally quit selling the game?

Another issue that I've had for over a year, they can't (meaning the EA app) send emails to my primary email address. Don't know why, they just can't. I had to give them a secondary email so if I ever need the security code to login, they have to send it there. Had to have the security code just now in order to get to this page.

    Hey friend,

I had the same issue. And I tried to use the following method to open it as admin, but still failed to load the game.

How to log in as an administrator on Windows 10
    1. Click Start and then type CMD, then press Enter.
    2. Simultaneously press the Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys.
    3. The UAC box to open elevated Command Prompt will appear, click Yes.
    4. Type in the following and press enter: net user administrator /active:yes

    Any help will be appreciated.
