SimCity 4 keeps turning off how to get it to play?

Are you playing off a Steam account or via a different way?

Does it boot up at all, or crash before the game loads?

I play off a Steam account, and sometimes if I try to do too much too quickly it freaks out and crashes. But I save regularly to keep my cities safe.
