I can't seem to join any regions with open cities because of this message. I bought the standard version of the game but I just can't find any regions that were made by someone with the same version.
There seems to be no way to filter for regions created using a certain game version (or even regions with open spots), which makes finding a region to play completely impossible.
I'm waiting too.
Bought the game 2 days ago and can't play
This is major issue... specially for players who bought the upgrade pack...

EA, Maxis, and to those others who may be concerned,
Consider that you chose to make this an online game. A game that has really never been about competition or cooperation so much as time sink building fun. This was something new. This was something I didn't approve of.
However, I came with you because Sim City is a title I've been with for a long time, and new building fun is better than old building fun. These new aspects you spoke of - global economy and cooperative/competitive region building - were not the game features I wanted, but perhaps they could be what I need right now. So I bought this new Sim City, and like other Sim Citys before it, it is addictive building fun.
HOWEVER, the two biggest reason for the game to be online do not really function do they? For one, Coal has been 6k per batch every second of every day. Alloy 42. Plastic? 21. etc. Add to that this thread's specific issue and most players can't fix their regions when some gigglybits asshat creates "Pollution Town" full of coal power plants and detonated nuke plants and bails. I actually LIKE the idea of fixing crapped on cities - THIS IS A GREAT NEW ASPECT OF GAME PLAY -- HOLY POOP! -- but I "cannot claim this city because [I] do not own some of the content to create it".
Games wouldn't save properly, and you seem to have fixed that. Thank you.

But consider that if I can't claim any city that is abandoned by someone with a different iteration of the game than that which I have, I have two choices:
1) I can buy all the DLC like a sucker.
2) I can isolate myself into solo regions.
Since I hope you respect me enough to realize that 1 is hardly the option I will choose UNTIL you get the game fully (okay, mostly) functional, consider that if I choose option 2 and the global economy is not working, why in the name of Zeus' thunderballs would I not simply download a hack and play the game offline until I grow bored and discard it?
I came with you on this journey, you have my $60. This is one of the biggest issues I have with the game at this time. Please, fix it. Allow us to reclaim all cities regardless of game version or DLC.
