I can't seem to join any regions with open cities because of this message. I bought the standard version of the game but I just can't find any regions that were made by someone with the same version.
There seems to be no way to filter for regions created using a certain game version (or even regions with open spots), which makes finding a region to play completely impossible.

This is just plain supid. I also bought the upgrade and i'm still nog able to join any game. I spend €70 on this game so far and it's still nog working like it should.
Sure, the free game was a nice gift and a big gesture, but the game is still broken.
EA, come on, fix this issue! We've had enough of your crap.
The best way to play multiplayer games at this moment is to establish a group of players on a (SimCity) forum, and then start a (private) region and invite those players to the region. You can also in the SimCity main menu click on the picture of a friend in your friendslist to see the regions her or she is playing. Perhaps you can find an empty city this way you can play, or ask this friend to invite you. Good luck.
I think the version count just doubled with the Nissan Leaf Charger
Wow that's a lot of incompatible versions. And they said they'll remove the Nissan download after 6 months. Not that someone would know they need to download the Nissan DLC to claim a city since the dialog is simply "You do not own the content to claim this city"
And they could look around the whole city and find no Nissan DLC in the whole city-- all that matters is that the person who created the city, at one point, downloaded the Nissan DLC and then maybe never found it useful enough to place.

We should be able to claim any city--just not plop stuff that wasn't bought
"plop what you bought" would be a great slogan
