As a lifelong fan of the Skate series, this feels so off...

I hope they listen to the fans like the Sonic Movie animators did when their fans game them meaningful feedback. I don't say this lightly but the physics feel so off. The art style is so cartoonish. This doesn't feel like a love letter to fans, it seems like a cash in on the fortnite-ification of games. MTX in the game absolutely sucks, nobody likes loot crates, it's not 2018 anymore.

Getting significant game slowdown due to the always online feature also. It feels like I'm playing in slow motion. Solo play is essential for this type of game with online being an option, not a requirement, but an option. Also I hope graphics settings are available at launch.

I honestly don't know who this is for, but I can say one thing, it's definitely not for Skate fans, skaters, or adults for that matter. This feels like a predatory push for cash cows.

Honestly, I really want to like it, I really do, some features are fun, and the new tricks are fun too and the transitions feel smooth but other than that I'm not really feeling it.

If the devs are reading this customization is what made the skate franchise fun and there is none of that here without cashing in your hard earned money, unless you want to be disappointed with loot crate pulls after doing endless challenges. I would rather pay £70 for a full game with unlockable content (like Skate 3). I don't know why EA has decided to push their usual BS on to fans but looking at recent trends full fledged games that don't really on microtransactions do well, not this type of stuff. People will stop playing this very soon after it releases once they realise. Just look at riders republic, steep etc.

Unfortunately, you've lost a fan, I willput some more hours in to hopefully change my mind but tbh I'll probably go back to modded Skate 3 on PC and stay there unless there are any significant gameplay changes. What a let down.

As a last note: YOU HAD IT RIGHT THE FIRST 3 TIMES AROUND. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE FANS.

  • i don't care much about the customisation or art style but yeah the physics are a dealbreaker for me. it doesn't feel like skate, the character feels too weightless while pushing (even uphill you get to like 30mph after 3-4 pushes) but too heavy as soon as you start doing tricks. flips and spins feel really awful and unsatisfying. landing a trick sketchy just snaps your board into place and doesn't slow you down or anything. on top of that there's just a million different barely perceptible things that just make the game feel worse than it did in the old engine.

unfortunately no amount of overly monetised customisation options count for anything in a game that isn't fun to play, but it's already very clear that this was always meant to be a microtransaction store with a built in skateboarding game and not the other way around, like we all knew it would be.

that being said, i'd be over the moon to be proven wrong by a future overhaul of the physics.

  • I have yet to actually play it (on console so I'm stuck on the error messages), but after reading around on the forums and realizing this is apparently a live service game.. yeah Eff that. Always online game? This **bleep** is gonna fail just like Suicide Squad did, just like 90% of all other live service games have. EA, if you are paying attention, you are making a HUGE mistake turning this into an always online game.

If it truly will be F2P, meaning NOTHING is behind a pay wall EXCEPT cosmetic BS, then give it an offline mode. There are loyal fans of the Skate series that have been waiting for a LONG TIME for this, most of us being much older than the live service model, and you're basically saying "F*** you" to all of us by forcing us to rely on servers to even play the game.

This model has been proven to fail time and time again and your game is NO DIFFERENT. It WILL fail, you WILL have to shut down servers to support it, your customers and fans WILL jump ship/turn on you/boycott your company and games.

I've personally done it with with Ubisoft and Blizzard already after the AC crap they've been spewing over the years and the Diablo 4 debacle with Game Pass - "D4 will NEVER come to GP, so buy it at full price!" 6 months later, "oh yeah we lied, thanks for the money now that's it's free for you."

Just the two cents from a long time gamer who's tired of seeing companies make bad business decisions in hopes of appeasing a younger audience with the attention span of a goldfish.
