If there was some kind of player filtering it'd probably be really difficult to actually even get a match started, who knows how many people in the lobby are running a zero-assist control scheme at any given moment who also want to play a spot battle or throwdown.
Most players with assists on are not particularly tricky to beat, they typically don't know the game's mechanics in a way a veteran player will which offers a huge advantage that can't be offset with the game saving them from falling off the board. They'll crash into walls or jump too early/late and crash into the rail/hubba etc.
