Feature Suggestion: Apparel Sorting

TL;DR:
This concept sorts clothing by model first, textures second. It follows the same logic as the Object Browser system, significantly reducing locker clutter and keeping lockers organized as more cosmetics are added.

Description:
In early December I asked my friend if there were any features he would like to see implemented in skate, and he mentioned "organizing clothing models and texture variants within the locker". I've had the concept for a while, but with the introduction of the Auto-Exchange System, it holds a lot more weight now.

Some players now receive items they may not want to claim, and as more cosmetics are introduced each season, lockers will inevitably grow much larger. Right now every individual texture appears as it's own item, which causes the locker to quickly become cluttered.

Grouping cosmetics by model first, then texture variants would keep the locker clean while supporting the growing number of cosmetics. For my concept, I mirrored the logic that exists in the Object Browser.

How it works:
In the Object Browser, selecting an item like a "Flat Round Rail" allows players to open a "Customize" menu that shows all of that object's variants. This system could be applied to Apparel & Accessories.

  • Locker displays the base-game clothing model (ie; Baggy Tee or Baggy Jeans)
  • Selecting the model opens a variant menu showing all owned textures
  • Players select the texture they want to equip

Extra Note/s:

  • Display icons could use a Blank White Diffuse for each model to keep things consistent.
  • Display icons could be assigned a default rarity for all models; Rare or Uncommon.
  • Display icons could appear muted by default and become colored when highlighted.
  • If greyed icons aren't visually appealing, an alternative could be displaying the last equipped texture variant for that model. This option disrupts rarity sorting and highlights the lack of long-term value in arbitrary rarities.
  • An additional "Sort by Favorite" feature could also be introduced, similar to the system used in Fortnite.

Why it's useful:

  • Reduces locker clutter
  • Makes browsing faster as the inventory grows
  • Benefits players who receive items they don't want to obtain
