Issues with Skate.
After over 100 hours of playtime, level 10 in every district and the platinum obtained these are my thoughts. The core gameplay is easily the best thing about the game and some may argue that’s all that matters. A few issues still need ironing out of course like transition grinds still feeling clunky to execute but on the whole it’s an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end because once you log into the hellscape that is San Vansterdam you will be met with seemingly endless bugs. Here is a list of just a few bugs and general issues…
- Many players still softlocked in a variety of different missions
- Laggy playback on replay editor and issues exporting clips
- Quick drop collision for other players objects is still possible even with the setting disabled
- Daily and weekly tasks not tracking
- Daily tasks that are sometimes not possible to complete (Complete 2 goals in 4 stunt challenges with only 2 stunt challenges available)
- Co-op challenges often don’t complete
- Softlocking issues when starting co-op challenges
- Game often gets stuck indefinitely loading while booting the game
- Game crashes
- Server crashes
- Wall clipping
- Textures not loading in
- Return to session marker persistently stays on screen after completing certain challenges
- Egregiously priced micro transactions (£33 Dead Space bundle, £9 for shoes)
- 5 chips per objective is an incredibly low amount
- Titles should have a separate box, not lumped in with DIY items
- Mind numbing recycled daily challenges
- No option to toggle off already completed challenges thus cluttering up the map
- No option to completely turn off HUD
- Uninspiring likely AI generated community parks
- Terrible lack of character customisation (Hairstyles, option to have hood up or any hat backwards, sticker resizing and placement, basic unbranded T-shirts and hoodies should be able to have colour changed)
- Ugly childish Sims art style
- Total lack of hills across the map
- Map is far too small and all areas feel the same
- Environment is too pristine. All ledges and rails are not even scratched and have seemingly never been skated
- Boards show no sign of wear
- Can’t skitch on cars
- All NPC’s are lifeless and bald for some reason. They’ve tried to hide this fact by giving them all hats
- Drip feeding content that should have been in the game day one (Brickswich, darkslides, finger flips)
- Vee is one of the worst guides in any game I’ve ever played relentlessly spouting cringey dialogue
- “Missions” feel like one long tutorial teaching you tricks and things about the game you’ve likely been doing for hours already even if you’re a new player to the series
- Putting up brightly coloured animal balloons everywhere makes it feel like a children’s birthday party
- Skate culture and vibe is completely absent
- Every season introduces “New skateable areas”. Adding a few ramps to the existing map is incredibly low effort and imo does not constitute a “New” area
