Lifeless game with none of the old magic

I am very disappointed with the tone of the game. The old games were filled with real skaters and personalities, like Rob Dyrdek and Big Black. They were funny and charming. There were pedestrians who would tase you if you bothered them, security guards who would chase you and knock you off your board if you skated in restricted areas, there was a Hall of Meat that encouraged huge wipeouts and would show you the broken bones on an x-ray.

skate. Feels like I’m playing a video game set in the same universe as a corporate HR training video. It’s cardboard and cringy. A group of people sat around a boardroom table, recited a land acknowledgment, and then butchered a beloved franchise, leaving it bereft of soul. Instead, the main goal seems to be to get kids to swipe their parents’ credit card.

when you were a child imagining becoming a game developer, is this what you had in mind?

  • Well said about it feeling like a corporate HR training vid. I do like the gameplay a lot and I might be one of the few that seems to enjoy the art style, but the game absolutely suffers from a lack of character. What little we have comes in the form of an actor playing a robot and a couple skaters with a tired affect. The city seems to have a little with the graffiti and the stuff like the crashed car and growling sewer monster but we're left to piece these things together ourselves or just guess what's going on. I don't necessarily need pro skaters or cutscenes or anything, but the missions could do a lot more for us than "ride here and just simply do what could've been a challenge."
