Not getting enough air!

I don't know if it's just me but I enjoy the game and want to do the challenges. But I can't get enough air to jump over things. Just recently I was doing I challenge where you start by jumping over a three step stairs. But no matter how hard I try I just can't get over it. This ain't the first time when I started the game it feels like I can't jump high enough to do things.
