Problem with party challenges

My fiance and I are trying to get our seasonal challenges done and there is one that requires session challenges in a party. When one of us joins the other, all of our currency disappears, we are unable to start co-op challenges and we get disconnected soon after. Why is this? Also I hope it gets fixed soon if it is a server issue.
