Rip Chip Economy Issue

I have a similar worry. It never felt like I wasn't making enough rip chips. I suspect there will be more boxes for the brickswitch area but that will be exhausted quite quickly.

there's a big gap, you don't earn enough rip chips to unlock boxes in a satisfying way considering what they give and then once you have them all there's too much time between new unlockables, i.e. the brickswitch boxes. then they keep adding new currencies for the events and season stuff. it's a waste of my time even trying to think about it. bad game design meant only for maximum profit.

It is a bummer that money is the main drive but besides that the amount of rip chips isn't a problem it's the fact that we have maxed out all the available avenues to use them. meanwhile some people don't think they get enough. it's a content quantity issue in my book.

How many hours have you guys played in order to be out of boxes to spend rip chips on? Because I think that's a good way of telling if we get enough currency.

I have 123 hours and I'm still about 15k away from buying all the builder boxes from Hedgemont and Gullcrest. Don't know for sure how far away, since there's all the useless titles I have to waste chips on. But with the rate at which I'm gaining rip chips just from the daily/weekly tasks and the few challenges it takes to complete those, I'm at least another 10 hours away.

Even if it only takes 30 hours to unlock everything in an unfinished, early access game this starved of content, I see that as a problem. Yes, it is possible to earn enough to buy everything and then the incentive is gone, but when it takes such an inordinately long time to actually get there, the problem with the rewards economy isn't not having enough things to buy.

I'm not going to buy anything with real money. so yeah there is a lot of stuff to buy, but I'm talking about the orange tics not being useful anymore. Also, I have about 400 hrs. but I leave my game on when I'm not playing so I don't know how much time I have actually played.

just spam random people until they join you, so you get a little boost for coop. I also have buddies I play with, but you get way more oranges by doing it with anyone random. You can't talk to them so it's like they are not real. that's if you're bashful and care about that.

They said rip chips, those are the "orange tics." Also quite frankly if you have 400 hours of playtime, even if half of that was idling, 200 hours put into the game within two months is way more than than what the majority of players can do, and I wouldn't want the devs balancing the economy for that. It would make the game completely miserable for most players.

Also obviously they're going to add more to spend your rip chips on, we already know we're getting a fourth city district that'll have a whole bunch of new boxes to open, and I imagine each district will get increased caps and more boxes down the road too.

There are currently 420 tracked items in the rip chip boxes, with an unknown number of titles as well in each of the 3 builder boxes. That's a lot of stuff to unlock, the problem isn't that there's not enough. The problem is it takes way too long to earn enough to buy it all, because the rewards are way too low. Again, I have 123 hours and I still have at least another 10 hours before I'll be able to buy every single thing. That's an insane ask for players and is more time than I've spent on 99% of the games I own, most of which have well over 5x the amount of gameplay content. 

I already do plenty of co-op. Getting an extra 20 rip chips per challenge is not going to fix the issue of an over-inflated rewards economy. Getting an extra 45-75 without even having to bother with co-op (and therefore getting 65-95 extra with co-op), would still not be quite enough in my opinion, but it'd be a much better answer than adding tons more stuff to buy.

The core gameplay is fun, when it doesn't break apart and send you flying off your board for no reason. But the grind for rip chips and boxes is one of the most dull and repetitive things I've ever experienced in a game. Like Akelaphobia said, games should not be balanced around the wants of people with hundreds of hours spent playing, when they're the only ones who've run out of things to do.

I have about 110 hours in the game and purchased all of the boxes, only playing in a party one day, but playing daily completing every available (non-party) challenge. 

My problem is that without anything to spend the Rip Chips on, I'm just making a number bigger until the Brickswitch Boxes release, and then what happens when I run through those? More cosmetic stuff to earn and buy seems to be this game's biggest motivator for player retention, at least currently, but SOME sort of progression/reward system is required for a modern AAA live-service game to have a chance at longevity.

If only they didn't make the foolish mistake of putting titles in loot boxes instead of having you actually earn them through gameplay -- then I might hop on to make progress towards unlocking a title for my player card that I can feel some sense of pride and accomplishment for earning.

The main boxes can be finished with less than 100 hours of play. The builder's boxes are just currency fodder, the same items with a cheetah or zebra skin applied.
