Session Marker Control Scheme isn't intuitive
I’ve been spending time with the new session marker system in Skate. and wanted to share some feedback as someone who really liked how it worked in Skate 3.
In Skate 3, the controls were:
L1 + Down → place marker (overwrites previous one instantly)
L1 + Up → teleport to marker
That system felt fast, precise, and intuitive because:
It used a modifier button (L1), which meant you almost never placed or teleported by accident.
It was instantaneous — you could set or use a marker on the fly without breaking momentum.
It created clear separation between “set” and “teleport,” so there was no ambiguity.
By comparison, the new control scheme in Skate. feels more confusing and error-prone:
Setting marker relies on a single button with a hold mechanic, which makes it easy to overwrite a marker by mistake.
The hold requirement makes it harder to create a new marker while you're on the move. if you want to be precise with the placement, you have to slow down or come to a complete halt before placing it to make sure it goes where you want (due to the fact that holding down the button means it takes longer and doesn't instantly happen).
Without a modifier, the action feels less deliberate — small input errors can ruin a good run.
I have a similar issue with returning to the marker. Without the modifier button, it feels too error prone since a single misinput means I could return to the marker by mistake.
Also in Skate 3, when you hold down the modifier button (L1), it showed what options were available in a small menu. So you could easily see L1+down=set marker, L1+up=return to marker, etc.) This cheat sheet provided an extra layer of confidence to make sure you don't misinput.
I understand the intent was probably to simplify things, but in practice it actually feels less intuitive and less usable than the old system.
Suggestion: Please consider adding a legacy session marker option (like the Skate 3 input scheme) or at least allow us to remap marker placement/teleporting to a modifier + button combo. That would let players choose the method that best fits their playstyle.
