Signup for playtest completely gone?

No where was it indicated anywhere that signup for the playtest would be unavailable today, and from what i’m seeing multiple people have been locked out if they were not signed up before today. Is there any explanation on this? I can understand if there was a cutoff for the playtest signup, but that needs to be communicated to playtesters.
